I-864, Affidavit of Support (Merged)

Hello.

What kind of financial proof do I need to submit with my I-864, Affidavit of Support? Is it tax transcripts of the last 1 or 3 years?

Also, does the applicant need to submit the original copy of the I-864 form during the consular interview or it is sufficiently submitted at the NVC stage?

Thank you in advance.

Most recent year tax transcript can be uploaded to nvc W-2/1099 and/or proof of US assets only  if needed  to  meet the required income.  Scanned copy of I-864 signed  by petitioner with ink pen can be uploaded to nvc. You may carry original copy to interview just in case.

I am a little confused about the I-864.

1. My tax transcripts are filed jointly with my spouse, so that number includes both of our incomes. My income is sufficient for the household and immigrant so my spouse isn't completing an I-864A. Do I have to show proof of my personal income, like W2s?

2. I made enough money last 2 years, but the year before my income is under the 125% threshold. Is that an issue, or do they only look at the last year?

Thanks for your help

Sort of.  A sponsor must answer questions about their total income on the past three tax returns but are only required to supply a copy of the most recent.  The question of "current income" does not come from a tax return.  It is calculated from a current pay stub and documented with that same pay stub.

In a visa case, unless the sponsor's wife is the immigrant, it is best practice to provide an I-864a from the joint filing spouse, even if they have no income and whether or not their income is "needed".
