Green card no valid ID?

Yesterday my husband and I went to Safeway to buy a bottle of wine.

They always ask for both people for ID.

My husband shows his driver's license and I show my Green Card, happt that I don't have to carry my passport around ( they always founf it hard to fing my DOB)

The girl behing the cash register says that my card isn't a valid ID and as a foreigner I need to show my passport.

Only because my husband was paying she allowed us to take the wine home ( I'm 31 by the way, so I don't look much like a minor either, my husband is even 5 yrs yonger than I :hehe: )

A couple of months ago, another guy at CVS told me he couldn't sell me any wine, because he would get in trouble for selling it to someone without a state ID, so what's happening here???

Get a State ID card.... most Americans never see a greencard so they would not know if what they were looking at was real or not...

As far as I know EAD or greencard is valid ID,if you buying alchohol.

I used to work in the convinient store so there is 5 forms of ID accepted

1)State ID

2)State DL

3)Military ID

4)ID ussied by Immigration(green card EAD).

5)Passport.

So next time tell the clerk go f""k himself if he doesn't know his job it is not your problem.

But I will recommend you to get state ID save you some nerves.

Its just down to the person really. EAD/GC is a government issued ID, so should be OK to use as ID. However sometimes people who work in the store are just retarded. This doesn't just count for EADs, I tried to pay for something with a dollar coin at the store the other day and the clerk said, "oh I'm sorry we don't accept those". "Why?" I ask. "Because they're not legal currency."

You would think that if it is good enough for the Federal Government it should be good enough for some bimbo in a grocery store

Do green cards have the date of birth on them? Haven't seen one yet.

Some stores have a policy of carding anyone who looks 30 or younger. Some have a policy of carding everyone across the board, and they have to enter a date of birth in the cash register to complete the transaction. The penalty for selling alcohol to a minor is pretty steep.

As for not accepting the dollar coins, I don't argue with retail clerks often (I was one) but I'd take that one up with the manager. The post office gives dollar coins as change in their stamp machines, and they certainly are legal tender even though they aren't very popular.

Design-wise, it's very amateurish. :P But I think the problem lies with what someone else said which is that not many people have actually seen a GC before so they don't know what to look for if it's real or fake.

Hahahahahahaha - Jim, I just seriously laughed out loud at that one!

Next time somebody tells you your greencard isn't official ID, just tell them to ring up Condoleeza Rice and ask her what she thinks about that.

Then when they look at you with their eyes crossed, ask for the Manager.

My husband driver's license has a picture on there from when he was 17, he's 26 now and has changed slightly. :P

He even doesn't have to change it until he's 60 ( with a 17 yr old on it ha ha).

The GC will be renewed in 2 yrs and after that even every 10 yrs.

So should look more offficial.

Are you kidding? That crazy hologram/silver photo back is waaaaaaay official looking.

That's what I expected in the store, she porbAbly thought it was a foreign ID???
