During the Dean’s speech , about 5 girls chanted free Palestine a few times, though barely audible. He paused briefly, acknowledged the right to peaceful protest , then went about his presentation. 
 

The next speaker was Al Gore , hurray for climate change…yup , I like the man ..but he is not a captivating public speaker .

 

The 5 girls protesting got up and walked out ..a few of us in the family/friends section..called out Bye Bye!! and applauded their departure. They were gone and forgotten in seconds

We can review the acronym in parts. First, “diversity.” The initial connotation of the word suggests a variety of people, experiences, and knowledge. But in practice, universities use diversity to justify a policy of sometimes explicit, sometimes implicit, racial discrimination: a total inversion of the principles of colorblind equality and individual merit.

 

Second, “inclusion.” In kindergarten, teaching kids to be inclusive means encouraging them to share and be polite to classmates. But in the context of a university, inclusion is used as justification for excluding people and ideas that are seen as a threat to prevailing ideologies and sentiments. 

 

Finally, “equity.” The immediate association is with the principle of equality. But equity is actually a radically opposed idea. Equality is the principle that every man or woman should be judged as an individual, neither punished nor rewarded based on ancestry. Equity demands the opposite: categorizing individuals into group identities and assigning disparate treatment to members of those groups, seeking to “equalize” what would otherwise be considered unjust outcomes.

What’s DEI’s purpose?

DEI has its roots in the 1960's anti-discrimination legislative movement when laws like the Equal Pay Act of 1963, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 addressed labor issues based on protected classes.

 

Companies had to comply with these anti-discrimination laws, and the DEI movement stems from these efforts to continue to create equitable workplaces and schools.

“Somewhere around the late '80s, early '90s, people are realizing that simply trying to stop discriminating against different groups of people is not enough,” Foldy said. “The kind of ethos of those initiatives was to go beyond just avoiding discrimination and to actively changing organizations so that they were more welcoming and more inclusive.”

And although the DEI acronym is in the spotlight, Foldy says, these initiatives are implemented under a plethora of different acronyms or names.

Every DEI initiative may be run differently, experts say, but the overall goal is to make companies and leaders examine the way their company treats or serves marginalized groups.

“Historically, there have been some groups of people who have had more access and control over resources, money, time, other people and the ability to affect policies, procedures, law,” said Opie.

 

 

Dominance and privilege – understandably, those things are hard to give up,” Foldy said. “For the greater good, of not just a workplace, but for our country, our democracy, we have to become a country that equally and passionately welcomes all the people who live in the country.”

This lady is a joke (Erica Foldy).  The goal of government is the end of discrimination period, and there has been much progress there despite the Democrats and their identity politics.  Governments trying to engage in social engineering will never be a good thing.

As Expected, Columbia Gave Student Protesters a Pass

 

You may remember there was a brief moment back in April when Columbia University finally seemed to be getting serious about dealing with student protesters who were breaking the rules.  The situation at the time was that students had set up a tent camp on campus and the school was giving them an ultimatum to clear out, even saying at one point that they could be expelled if they refused to comply.  But instead of going along with the demand, a group of students escalated by taking over a building on campus.  The police were called in and they were arrested.

Here were are four months later, the students are returning to school after summer break and contrary to all the tough talk in the spring, it turns out almost no one was punished for their behavior.  The House Education and Workforce Committee released the information today.  [...]

Enrollment Figures Change Dramatically at MIT After Affirmative Action Ban (And That's Good)

 

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology just admitted its first class since the Supreme Court decision which put an end to affirmative action.  As expected, the number of minority students dropped.

 

This should definitely put an end to any claims that affirmative action wasn't putting a thumb on the scales for minority students.  What we're seeing at MIT this year is what happens when you take that thumb off the scale and allow students to be judged on their own merit.  [...]

Imam Instructs Columbia Students to 'Take Out' Jewish Professor

 

Shai Davidai is a professor at Columbia University.  He is also Jewish.  He also recently learned that an imam instructed members of the student group Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine to "take him out."

 

Looks like the school year at Columbia is off to its expected start.

According to a piece in The College Fix, Davidai noted that he learned his name came up in the Aug. 20 webinar, "Islamic Political Activism."  Davidai, who is an Israeli national and calls himself a Zionist, was targeted by Imam Tom Facchine.  In addition to his role as an imam, Facchine is also a research director at the Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research.  [...]
