Columbia Anti-Semitism Task Force:  Problems Are 'Serious and Pervasive'

 

Yesterday Columbia University's Anti-Semitism Task Force released its second report on conditions at the school.  The task force was formed last November in the wake of the 10/7 attack on Israel.  In June it released its preliminary findings minus any specific recommendation for dealing with the problem.  The report released yesterday is about 90 pages and now includes recommendations.

 

The publication of this report comes just a few weeks after President Minouche Shafik resigned, making me wonder if reading an advance version of this report is what motivated her to leave.  The report leaves little doubt that not enough was done to address the situation on campus last year.  In fact, the authors say they explicitly want to counter those who have tried to minimize the seriousness of the wave of anti-Semitism which swept the campus.  [...]

University of Michigan Club Fair Explodes in Chaos as Pro-Hamas Protesters Broken Up by Police

 

It's back to school at the University of Michigan and that means the "Festifall" celebration for returning students is on.  Festifall is a two-day fair that allows students to reconnect and examine various clubs and organizations the school has to offer.

 

Also present at Festifall were about 50 pro-Hamas protesters.  They didn't have a permit but they held their little "die-in" anyway.  "Die-ins" were silly when they first became popular 50 years ago during the Vietnam protests and they're even sillier now.

The cops gave them their three warnings and then moved in.  [...]

Keffiyeh-Clad Man Injures Jewish Students with Glass Bottle at University of Pittsburgh

 

[...] The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Saturday that a man named Jarrett Buba, who at 52 years old is unlikely to be a student at the university, "attacked two Jewish University of Pittsburgh students with a glass bottle as they walked through campus Friday evening near the Cathedral of Learning."  Buba "had been sitting at a table across Forbes Avenue from where the students were walking when he ran across the street and attacked them about 6 p.m."  The attack was as bloody as it was gratuitous: "One of the students had cuts on his face and the other was bleeding from cuts on his neck."  This was no random incident; the headgear that each party was wearing indicates what was really going on.

Buba's victims were wearing yarmulkes; Buba himself, however, was sporting a keffiyeh, the checkered scarf that is closely associated with the Palestinian Arab jihad against Israel.  The simple fact that he was wearing this scarf indicated that he was fanatically committed to the Palestinian cause, even to the point of thinking himself righteous when attacking random Jewish students.  [...]

New York City's Laboratory for Hate

 

On Tuesday night, Sept. 3, Ilya Bratman—U.S. Army veteran, CUNY English teacher, and Hillel executive director at eight CUNY and SUNY schools—hosted a welcome-back dinner for Hillel students at a kosher restaurant near Baruch College.  Soon after their entrance into Mr. Broadway, guests were surrounded by a chanting, braying, mob.

"CUNY, CUNY, You can't hide.  You support genocide!"

 

"Terrorist! Terrorist! Terrorist!"

"All Zionists are racist!"

They blocked the doorway, preventing students and other diners from leaving, held photos of murdered babies in the students' faces, and even hit a Hillel staffer.  One of the male protesters, his face concealed by a mask, shoulders draped in a kaffiyeh, creepily formed his fingers in the shape of a triangle—Hamas' symbol for a military target.

Then the slurs got personal.  To a clearly Jewish-looking couple walking down the street, "You ugly ### !  Go back to Brooklyn!"

And, then, the kicker:  "Where's Hersh?"

For an hour.

When the cops arrived after 30 minutes of the melee, they moved the protesters "5 feet away" from the entrance, according to Bratman, placing them close to the restaurant windows, which they then hammered with their hands.  There was nothing they wouldn't say, from "You ain't going home tonight," to "Dogs off campus."  [...]

You would think universities would have learned their lesson on their promotion of antisemitism on campus.

 

After all, donors pulled huge endowments and top Jewish students went to other schools this past year as antisemitic protests engulfed elite universities.

But not Cornell.

 

They had a doozy of a Jew-hater on their professorial staff, and as campus tents went up, he went to town, spewing his thrill at the murder of 1,200 Jews by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7 to all the impressionable kiddies who were there to listen.  [...]

With Trump's Victory, Schools Offer 'Post-Election Wellness Spaces'

 

In hindsight, Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy saw it coming.  As I reported Monday, the school set up a "Self-Care Suite" for students the day after the election, offering opportunities to play with Legos, color with crayons, and eat milk and cookies "in recognition of these stressful times."

Stressful times, indeed.  This is the Kamala Harris demographic, and the school's administration understood that its student body would need help adjusting to the fact that Donald Trump would soon be their next president.

But Georgetown is hardly an outlier.  Across the country, university professors and students took what amounted to a national mental health day as the news of Trump's victory sunk [sic] in.  [...]
