Hi all :) I met my fiancee about 2 years ago and Ill be heading to the Philippines to finally meet her family and engage her.

After such a long time and the fortune that one of my cousins has gone through the process of a k-1 visa himself, Im fairly well versed.

The only question my cousin didn't know the answer to was how much money I should have in savings and assets before I file a Support document? I meet the minimum income requirements at about 23k per year. Ive had the job for nearly 5 years as well so that would likely look good as far as sustainability. I figure after I fly to the Philippines in 2 months and save up for 5 months before filing that I can have about 5k or 6k in the bank which isn't necessary for me to touch. Do you think that is enough? It should be noted as well that eventually Ill be able to move into a family estate and not even have to pay utilities, rent or food. Making support even easier...

No rent, Lol I always wondered what that was like. Id actually be able to support my fiancee well :innocent:

To my knowlege, and to the best of my guesses based on the guides and info, you have to meet the poverty guidelines and simply prove you can support your fiance. I do not think there is a minimum asset requirment so long as you can prove income, reliable employment, or another verifyable source of income in your name. The dollar amount in the bank will certainly help but showing that you have consistent source of money seems to be more important. Any veterans here that know otherwise please correct me.

Good luck!

If that is the case I think I'm set. I really only was worried about income and having a stable home. The legal rest I have handled fairly well. Anyone who can verify what the above person said would about make my life :innocent::blush:

If you meet the income requirements, you can just leave the asset information blank.

As you have a steady income and have been in the job for nearly 5 years you have nothing to worry about. Your tax returns wil be sufficient to prove that you meet the minimum income requirement.
