Should I bring backup household sponsor documents...or upload?

My wife's interview is next week and we are going to try to get approved based upon my assets.

 

We have a backup household member (my mother) ready with filled out documents and her financial evidence.

 

We haven't uploaded them to CEAC as I've heard conflicting rumors about the pros and cons of doing this.

 

Does anyone know if it's fine just to bring the physical documents to the embassy instead of uploading? Or is it better to upload 

even if we're not sure if we'll be using a household sponsor.

If the interview is already scheduled, I'd upload the documents if you think you might need them.  It will cause no harm.

Well, it won't hurt the visa process to do that, but it WILL perhaps unnecessarily obligate the joint sponsor.

Agree.  But I assume the joint sponsor is already agreeable.

They are fine to sponsor (it's my mom).

 

On another note, I've been told that she is to fill out a household member i-864a as she is living in my intended address in the US, however she isn't living with us overseas at the moment. Is this correct?

No.  She should provide an I-864 of her own as a "joint sponsor" not a household member.  Presumably, she qualifies on her own, and does not need to combine income with you.  That you live at the same address does not change this.  I-864a is for combining income.

I was told that since I'm using that address as my permanent residence in the United States that she would count as a household sponsor.

 

Ok if you're right I need to get her to fill out an i-864 instead.

 

Are you 100% positive on this? If so it means I have to bug my mom to sign and scan some more docs 🙂

Lots of wrong things are "told" to people.  If mom is married, you'll need an I-864a from her spouse.

Haha, yes you're right. I'll go with the joint sponsor as it seems to make more sense to me as well.

Just a quick update: 

 

My wife had her interview yesterday and was approved! The officer told her at the interview that her visa would be issued.

 

We had initially applied using my assets as my income isn't enough, but even though I showed more than enough liquid cash assets they said I needed a joint sponsor.

 

Thankfully I had already uploaded the joint sponsor into the system along with supporting documents so they had everything they needed. We brought a printed version but they didn't need it.

 

A quick note: We added our joint sponsor AFTER the interview was scheduled so there was no option of adding a joint sponsor in the CEAC system. I simply uploaded all the documents in the sponsor's section and they accepted that.
