Many lyricists as well as poets don't like having to 'tell' people what they mean with their work. There's a great deal of subjectivity within art.

Well.... duh.

I'm tellin you this guy is gonna go inter-planetary !

I think WOM has a crush

I agree. A lot of people respond to art that isn't straight forward with, "I don't get it," and then dismiss it as artsy fartsy.

Sorry Mr Picasso Butt, I just don't get it. :P

"Artsy fartsy" would be about the furthest thing from my mind if I tried to describe "Chocolate Rain"....

It's about the plight of black (chocolate) people

"Every February washed away" February is Black history month.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Well, it's about racism. Including racism against people who don't necessarily perceive themselves as "black" or "brown" -- as in "'Flippin cars in France the other night" and "Cleans the sewers out beneath Mumbai."

good call. I didn't read the whole thing. though I'm not sure flipping cars in France is the result of racism. It might be a racist act to flip car of a specific ethnic group.

Stuff like this is what I love about the internet. Its not popular because its good, its popular because its weird, people made fun of it, and it evolved into a meme. I'd explain why its so popular buy, you know, rules 1 & 2.

Perceptions are fascinating. Many Americans' perception of "race" has been thoroughly tainted by hundreds of years of slavery and institutionalized racism, in a way that is almost unrecognizable to people from other countries.

I have a friend from St. Lucia who perceives himself as very much a black man (and I think most people in the world would consider him as such) but his mother was very "light-skinned." He said "she always thought she was white. Until she came to America. Then she found out real fast she was black."
