K1 visa interview - Need to give consent to ACRO

Feeling frustrated and disappointed today. My fiancé has his K1 visa interview at the embassy in London today. He had “no live trace” on his police report, so he was proactive and got Subject Access Requests as well to take to the interview. Everything went fine except that they requested that he give ACRO consent so they can confirm the information.

Just when we thought we were finally crossing the finish line, it got moved further away. Does anyone have experience with this? How exactly does he go about giving consent? There was no helpful information in the letter from the embassy, and we can’t find anything on the ACRO site either about giving consent. One email to ACRO has already bounced back with an automated message that they’ll respond in 14 days. Does anyone have any estimate how long it will take to get the consent taken care of? Or how long it will take the embassy once we notify them that consent has been given?

We’re hoping that our plan to celebrate his first Thanksgiving is not off the table now. Sighhhhhh

Hmmm I had to get an SAR too which I took with me for my interview (by the way, keeps copies for the entire process, I just had my citizenship interview and I had to show it) but they did not say I had to get consent. Did they say anything else at the time?

They put “rejected” but assured him that he’s not rejected and they just need consent to double check everything with ACRO. Said he needed to email them a “sworn statement” once he had given consent to ACRO. Not even sure what exactly they mean by “sworn statement.”

No response from ACRO yet. Sighhhh

On the SAR form there's a section specifically for giving permission for ACRO to discuss your SAR with third parties.

It's under 3rd party nominations. There is then a part to fill out the details of the person who they're allowed to discuss your SAR with.
I've copied the wording below and attached a view of what details they ask you to fill in.

"

5    Third party nomination

ACRO will not discuss your request with another party or disclose details without your consent. If for any reason you wish to nominate a representative to discuss this request on your behalf you must provide their contact details below. Providing contact details for a third party will be considered as consent. If you are a power of attorney for the applicant, please enclose a copy of the power of attorney documents with this request.
"

Assuming the Embassy simply wants permission to confirm the contents of the SAR with ACRO and aren't requesting a brand new SAR. Then I'd email ACRO quoting the reference that should be headed on the email which your SAR was attached to. Provide the same identifying documentation you used to apply for the SAR (ID etc...). Then write a short email stating you would like to give permission for ACRO to discuss your SAR with the embassy and write out the details that is on the original form.

Omg thank you! How frustrating because we wouldn’t have had the information to fill it out at the time we first submitted the SAR paperwork. Nothing is ever easy! I hope that we can just amend it rather than submit a whole new SAR because that took ages! Thank you!!

If the immigration officer asked specifically for you to give consent for them to contact ACRO regarding your SAR. Also assuming they kept a copy of your SAR. Then you can probably save filling out an entire whole new application. An simply send the same ID requirements when filling out a SAR in an email. As stated, quoted with the reference that should be at the head of the email your SAR was attached to. Then write a short email explaining your situation and attach the required ID and section 5 of the form..... Something like,

"                                                                                                                           Your Address here

Subject - Third Party Nominated Consent

To whom it may concern,

I have been requested by the US Embassy to provide consent, for the Immigration Officer reviewing my case to contact you on my behalf. This is to discuss my recent SAR application, in relation to a, 'NO LIVE TRACE', ACRO Police certificate. Attached is the Third Party Consent portion, section 5, from the original SAR application. I give consent for ACRO to discuss my SAR with the person listed on the form.

I have also attached the required form of ID.

Regards.

Mr.....     "

Another issue we are running into is that the embassy didn't give any information on who to give consent to. Anyone know if we can give consent to "US Embassy London" under "Name of Representative/Contact on the SAR Application? Or do they need the name of the Immigration Officer specifically? We're going to try to reach out to the embassy tomorrow, but, again, not sure who to even reach out to. Thanks!
