Hi,

My wife is ready to apply for the US Citizenship based in the 3 year rule . ( I'm US citizen).

We have always submitted the application by mail. We have been researching and there is an option to submit the N-400 online.

Any experience with the online submission? Any pros/cons?

Thank you,

Wife applied online (5 year rule).  It was a piece of cake.  Immediately received receipt notice and biometrics re-use notice.  Filing N-400 to day of Naturalization oath was less than 6 months total.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Online was about the easiest thing we've ever done for this entire journey. I wish all the forms could be this way!

Yes, online systems have glitches. I wouldn't worry too much, it may be "normal". But yeah, that's one of the reasons to file on paper.

Hello EveryOne!
I am almost finished with any online application N400.
That last section....would you recommend attaching a personal letter as to why I want to naturalize?
I've been a US resident since 2008.

Perhaps I should start a new thread.

(An aside: I was quite an active person here when going through my K1 on 2007 to 2008 and love VJ. That account was lost somehow and I started a new one.)

Here's part of my then my signature from my original login name "spiritalight" from 2007 plus new stuff:

You will do foolish things; do them with enthusiasm!! | Don't just do something, sit there.

K1: Flew/moved to the U.S. – January 9th, 2008

Green card/residency card: email notice of approval – August 28th, 2008 yippeeeee!!!

Card arrived – September 6th, 2008  :)
Moved to Honolulu 2010 | Moved to SFBA 2014

Renewed permanent resident card (green card)March 2020
N400: Applied to naturalize N400October 30, 2023
