I sent my I-485 along with I-864 and I-765 on 21st September 2023. I still haven't received a receipt notice yet, digital or physical mail, and they haven't cashed the money order yet that was sent as payment for the visa.

Is/has anybody else experienced a similar situation?

You didn't pay for a visa.  You submitted an application to adjust your status.  Do you have confirmation the packages were delivered to the correct USCIS lockbox?  If so, you are either awaiting initial processing or the packages were rejected.  Either way, you just have to wait.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

I'm aware I'm not applying for a visa, I just said it by mistake. The USPS tracking said it arrived at the chicago po box that USCIS have on their website for I-485's.

Adjusting from K1, I sent my i-485 along with I-864, I-765 and G-1145. It contained a money order at the front of the envelope for $1000 and a money order for $225, totaling $1225 for the I-485 and biometrics.

USPS tracking says it arrived at the chicago lockbox.

3 weeks later I contacted USCIS live chat and they said they have no record of my case and to contact the lockbox. I contacted the lockbox and I have no response 2 weeks later. My money orders have also still not been cashed yet.

Do I just accept defeat at this point and send the application again? I'm at a total loss over what I can do at this point

Trace the money orders.  Were they cashed?

No they still haven't been cashed, I've been checking everyday

Which Lockbox did you send your documents and payment to. I mailed my wife's documents on last Thursday to the Chicago Lockbox.  Was supposed to be delivered yesterday but it shows its still awaiting delivery.  Instead of a cashiers check I sent a personal check for the full amount.  Keep us updated as to any changes.  I will update as well.

Do you have an update on this? I am in the same situation. AOS was delivered to Chicago lockbox via USPS on 12/18. It’s 2 weeks later and still nothing - check hasn’t been deposited and no NOA. It appears that other applications are being processed much more quickly.
