Good news! My mother's visa was approved. We're counting on Monday, but secretly hoping for a Friday pickup. Mom is enjoying Almaty so much, I don't think chilling there over the weekend will be an issue.

Not much to report about the interview. The papers were in order, so it was quick. Mom was scheduled for 7:45 a.m.; she called me on WhatsApp an hour later from outside the Consulate. The officer asked her where I lived and what I did for a living, shuffled the papers, and said she was good to go.

I received an email about the pickup on Friday around 3:30 p.m. Almaty time (4:30 a.m. EST, but I'm an early riser). Called mom right away, and she picked up her passport/visa. I guess we lucked out, because most people said we'd probably need to wait till Monday.

Does anyone have any information on how to get permission for a medical exam in Moscow in lieu of Almaty?

I saw in this post and others that it's possible, but not clear how Almaty Embassy allowed it.

Calling them have been unsuccessful so far and they do not answer with anything useful via their traveldocs.com email.

Thank you for this information.

We were able to get a response following this format. They approved Moscow for medical exam.

Congratulations to all who got their mom a visa!  It’s wonderful!

We are just starting the process for my mom, didn’t submit 130 yet.

I have a question- did you

indicate Moscow as an embassy that going to issue a visa or put KZ right away? I’m wondering maybe I should contact KZ now and ask if I can put KZ in my 130 petition?

I don't think there's a functioning embassy/consulate in Russia right now, most cases are assigned to Warsaw and a few family visas to Kazakhstan. I think contacting Kazakhstan/Uzbekistan/your country of choice can't hurt, but there is no guarantee they will accept your case. Good luck!

That's right, Russians are considered a "homeless nationality" by US DoS, with Warsaw being the default embassy for them. Moscow is only processing cases in matters of life or death emergencies.
