Case number when transferring to another embassy

Hello there! 
I’m the beneficiary of a K1 visa. When we applied last year, I was living in a different country. Once my case was approved I have had to ask for it to be transferred to the new embassy where I’m living now. It’s been 3 weeks since the previous embassy said they have sent the file and the status is “Transfer in progress”. 
I’ve hear that when transferring a case, the case number changes? Or at least the first 3 letters (with the embassy code) do? 
can someone confirm? Or point me to how I can find out if I have a new case number to track?
