Next Steps After Receiving F21 Spouse Visa

Hello everyone,

My wife received her F21 visa and have entered the country. I'm excited about this new journey but have some questions about the next steps. Could anyone please help me with the following:

1. How does she go about obtaining a Social Security Number (SSN)?

2. Does she need to apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) to work in the US?

If this isn't the right forum for these questions, kindly let me know where can find the appropriate information.

Thank you in advance for your guidance!

1. Go to SSO after receiving your physical GC.

2. No.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

1.  If your wife selected the option in her DS-260 form to receive SSN, then her SSN card should arrive in the mail within 2 weeks or so of her US entry.  If it doesn't arrive in 1 month, she should book an appointment at the local SSA office to apply for SSN in person.

2.  The moment CBP stamped her F2A visa, she already became an LPR, authorized to work.  No need for EAD.  Her F2A visa + CBP entry stamp serves as her temporary green card for 1 year, equivalent to the plastic GC for any legal purpose, including employment and travel.

Have you paid the $220 immigrant fee for the plastic GC?
