I disagree. Anyone I've seen in recent months that's been approved outside of the current sequential order of things has always either expedited, filed a K3, or contacted a congress person that was proactive. No one with an earlier than usual approval has not done at least one of these 3 things. And a lot of those are K3 filers that have had earlier than usual approval. Does it work for everyone though? I don't think so. But there are a lucky few who manage to skip the line by months or weeks with it. 

 

I reach out to people on VJ who get an earlier than usual approval, and they've always done one of the 3 things. Same for other channels of discussion on IR1/CR1 processing, I always ask them if they did one of the three. I have not yet encountered a case that was approved earlier than usual and didn't do anything at all from the listed. Not a single case.

When I look at "myProgress" on the USCIS website, it now says: "Estimated time until your case decision: 9 Months." A truly bone-chilling development that I will assume actually means nothing, just like "5 months" and "3 months" meant nothing previously.

These estimates mean nothing. They are ridiculously inaccurate across different types of cases. Just to give you some context: I've seen somebody reporting estimate showing 7 month to decision on N-400 on the day they were taking oath. The other person saw "Your case is taking longer than expected" 9 days after filing their case (and got worried about it).

 

As one VJ speculated, these were designed to reduce number of calls to USCIS asking what's going on with their case and how far they're from approval. Essentially, it just keeps you busy by showing random stuff here and there. I'm not saying this is true purpose of myProgress, but it appears to be functioning this way today.

I recall my first experience with the varying times on USCIS website. My initial reaction was exactly what you are feeling, but after a while and reading what others have posted gave me some reassurances.

Oh, congratulations @Shyler! What happy news. I wish you all the best as you proceed to the next step. Thanks for sharing with this group. I've been eagerly waiting to hear someone from this forum announce an approval. I think you are the first of our group to share good news. It makes me really happy for you and all of us.

@emeditz I see the same think in my USCIS "myProgress". It changed about 2 weeks back. I am also considering it meaningless. 

 

But I would like to rant for a minute. How irresponsible of our government and the technology team at USCIS to put out a system that misguides and confuses people. It's the worst kind of technical carelessness.
