I thought this was for a US IV interview at the consulate.

Yes, that’s what I gathered also.   I’m just surprised that naturalized citizens of Canada do not have enough English to manage a consular interview.

Hi VJ community,

Is it possible for Canadian parents to be interviewed in their mother language but English nor French in Montreal Consulate? Since my parents don’t speak English nor French but they are Canadian citizens.

Thank you for your help.

I assume when they naturalized in Canada they were older than 54 therefore not required to pass the English or French language test.  What did they do for that interview?

I thought it was actually some officers working there who know my parents’ uncommon language available for the interview. So, am I allowed to find an interpreter and they would be there with my parents on the interview date?

Yes, the link I provided above clearly states this.  If you want to be certain, you need to arrange an interpreter.

Please note: The Consulate has the right to refuse entry to any persons.

  • Special Needs Visitors: Applicants may bring one person to assist them if they are over 80 years of age, are a minor child, or are disabled and require assistance to complete the application process.
  • Interpreter: Applicants may bring one interpreter if they do not speak English well enough to participate in an interview, and consulate staff cannot interview them in their native language. A final decision as to whether or not an interpreter is needed will be made by consular staff on the day of the interview.

They were older than 55 at the time and they didn’t do the interview at all I believe. There was no test for them but they must physically present for immigration officers to check their identities and signed paperwork.
