I need to cancel a K1 visa that has JUST moved into approval status

We have had NO action at all with USCIS since submitting the application back last October. Based on who this person has shown themselves to be, unfortunately I made the choice to end the relationship last night. It’s irreparable. Beyond irreparable

Of course when I checked the status today, after not checking it for 2 months, so I could contact USCIS, it was labeled as approved now as of 4 days ago (we have not had the interview yet). What are the steps to cancel this? I’m reading conflicting information online.

Are you the petitioner?

Yes I am the petitioner.

In that case, I believe you can withdraw the petition in writing by notifying the NVC.   @Family?

Safest bet is to notify USCIS , NVC and embassy .
You write one Statement by Petitioner to cancel/revoke . Include names of both , dob and case number.
Email copy of letter to NVC ( via ask NVC , upload to USCIS account online and email consulate for good measure.

That’s what I’ll do. Thank you for the help.

Thread is moved from the K-1 Case Progress subforum to the K-1 Process forum.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

To notify NVC,  u will need the case # they are about to assign u (by embassy initials)

then u can send a letter (email) to both NVC and embassy

I suggest a notary signature so the embassy knows u r the one doing it

How to Cancel K 1 visa?

A. You should make a written request to the Embassy asking to withdraw the petition. You may wish to notarize such a statement so USCIS can be assured that you personally are asking the petition to be withdrawn.

I believe that you were given all the information you need to be able to withdraw, but I agree with @OldUser: please be 100% sure that this is what you want. Once you send that letter, there is no way back. You will not be able to unwithdraw the petition.

Thank you and I agree. This was not something that I took lightly and have been working on over the past few months with a therapist. It’s unfortunate but the route that is best. ❤️

This actually hit me hard because I know how much that would be invested in the relationship. I’m rooting for you. I pray you make the best decision. Please take your time and think about it before going ahead with the withdrawal.

Wishing you both happiness and peace. ❤️💚

I’m heartbroken but unfortunately it’s become (unintentionally) emotionally abusive and irreparable. It’s self preservation at this point and as I have been the sole investor financially, energetically and with my time, yeah for me, it’s a gigantic loss but is the next and final step. Thank you for your kind words

I'm sorry that things didn't work out, but I am glad to hear that this is a well-thought-through decision. We see too many posts here by people who withdrew their petition during an argument and now regret it, but can't reverse the decision that they had made while they were mad. Wishing you all the best.
