Has anyone done the streamline procedure to get tax compliant by themselves?

Accidental American here and didn't realise I was supposed to be filing taxes. Born, lived and worked in the UK my entire life, got my first US passport this year and went into a blind panic when I realised I'm supposed to file taxes and provide transcripts for the I-864 Affidavit of Support, as me, my husband (UK citizen) and 3yr old daughter are planning to move to the US. We have submitted I-130 forms. My father has agreed to be a joint sponsor (earns well over the amounts required for household size).

My question is, has anyone done the streamline procedure themselves without the help of an expat tax company or software? I want to get myself compliant ASAP and cannot afford to pay upwards of £700 to get it done by someone else. If anyone has done this, any pointers/tips/advice would be helpful please!

You mean paper and pencil? IME that’s a fast path to errors and letters from the IRS.

Filing the tax forms -just follow the IRS site for MFJ or MFS on the IRS site for non resident alien spouse

Tax treaty with UK  so no taxes owed

keep  a paper copy of the 1040 and all documents u provide as u probably will not have the IRS transcripts in time

At this point the IRS will not be fast to process forms as IRS says

https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-status-of-mission-critical-functions#:~:text=We're processing tax returns,we continue to experience delays.

We're processing tax returns, payments, refunds and correspondence. However, we continue to experience delays. We are working hard to get through the inventory.

the following  IRS site has all the information u need on foreign income including the 2555 form for the exclusion

@Mike E apologies I have worded it wrong and possibly misunderstood on my end. I just meant without using any sort of paid service to do expat taxes on your behalf (myexpattaxes for example)
