I recently had a H-1B visa interview at the US Embassy in Ottawa, Canada. I had an employment offer from an esteemed university with a start date of October 1st. My interview went smoothly and I thought I could get my visa issued. However, I got a blue slip (administrative processing) and the officer said no additional document is needed. They only kept my CV and a translation of my military exemption card and gave back my passport and the I797 approval document.

  • I am wondering whether my case has been sent back to the USCIS given that my I797 approval document was given back to myself.
  • Should I expect to hear soon from them?
  • Does anyone have experience with the US Embassy in Ottawa regarding AP?

There is a thread about Iranian AP does not tend to be quick

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

It is absolutely because you're Iranian, nothing to do with Ottawa per se (unfortunately).

May I ask what academic field you are in?

I have a background in STEM, and my work in the US revolves around AI...

I might be wrong but I believe the officer made their decision when they asked about my immigrant petition (the last question).
