Sen. Bob Menendez indicted on bribery charges

Whelp, this one is a doozy of an indictment. That's a lot of cash and gold bars laying around your house for the feds to find. Seems he was also selling secrets to the Egyptians.

Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., has been indicted on federal bribery charges, the Justice Department announced Friday.

The indictment alleged that Menendez and his wife, Nadine, received “hundreds of thousands of dollars” in bribes and used the senator’s influence to enrich several businessmen from New Jersey, as well as the Egyptian government. 

 

Menendez received cash, gold bars, payments toward a home mortgage, compensation for a low- or no-show job, a luxury vehicle and other items of value, the filing said. 

The indictment also alleged that Menendez provided sensitive U.S. government information and pressured an official at the Agriculture Department for the purpose of protecting Egyptian American businessman Wael Hanna and the government of Egypt. Menendez interfered in an investigation undertaken by the New Jersey attorney general into New Jersey businessman Jose Uribe, it said. 

Menendez “promised to and did use his influence and power and breach his official duty to recommend that the President nominate an individual for U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey who Menendez believed could be influenced by Menendez with respect to the federal prosecution of Fred Daibes," a New Jersey developer, the indictment said.

There is a passage that caught my eye:

 

"Third, MENENDEZ promised to and did use his influence and power and breach his official duty to recommend that the President nominate an individual as U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey who MENENDEZ believed could be influenced by MENENDEZ {....}"

 

Was the President interviewed? What did the President know and when did he know it?

Other portions of the indictment seem to imply some ''light treason''. This guy has got to go away for the rest of his life. The wife seems to have been the major facilitator in all corrupt actions. Encouraging, transferring, and engaging in dealings to further certain agendas in exchange for lavish 'gifts'. She seems to have strong ties to all the co-conspirators and able to contact Egyptian officials regularly. Is she some kind of foreign agent? Sen. Bob Menendez is getting his legal team back together.

 

The New Jersey Democrat has picked defense attorney Abbe Lowell — who got Menendez off on corruption charges six years ago — to defend him against three federal bribery counts, according to the Justice Department.

 

Menendez, 69, tapped Lowell to represent him after the indictment was unsealed Friday, a spokesman for the Manhattan US Attorney’s Office confirmed Monday.

 

Lowell — who has been busy representing first son Hunter Biden — did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I was listening to NPR yesterday and they had some lady from WaPo explaining it and why so few Dems have called him out. And how he was reelected despite his previous run in, his wife etc.

 

I find it very worrying how people get elected on the basis of their Party affiliation. The old Pelosi glass of water could be elected in San Fran as long as it has a D on it. Well guess what happens.
