What if I don’t pay taxes because my income is non-taxable?

I am at the tail end of the K-1 visa process. I have created a DS-134 for my fiancé to submit at the interview with a letter of explanation. We will see how that goes.

i am a disabled veteran. I get monthly disability checks from the VA, and that money is non-taxable. I also receive SSI, and at tax time, my AGI is below taxable levels. So the IRS refuses to accept a tax return from me. So I have no tax transcripts for the last 5 years.

I wrote all this in a letter of explanation to accompany the DS-134, along with benefit letters from the VA and the SSA. I sent letters from the banks detailing my savings and the deposits into those accounts. I hope that will suffice for the K-1. My gross income is well above the required level for sponsorship.

My question comes because the AOS seems to be much stricter on the income requirements and I am just wondering if you folks have suggestions on the paperwork I should start gathering.

i am 62 years old and worked and paid taxes for over 45 years, just not in the last 5 years.

Thank you for your time.

I also receive SSI

If you truly mean SSI, https://www.ssa.gov/ssi , that income cannot be used for I-134 and I-864

Hmmmm. Perhaps I misspoke. Is just regular SS checks I qualified for early because of the disability. What do you call that?

I guess I should call that SS(Disability)?

SSDI

and SSDI is permitted income for I-134 and I-864

VJ members in your situation addressed this by printing their award letters from VA and SSA.

Thank you. As long as what I wrote and gave her to submit gets her thru the interview in Manila and I bring her here, we can deal with this in a few months.

Thanks again.
