no. Just write a letter stating you want to amend your answer(s)

I see no issue if you cure all this before your interview.

So if I'm changing the first answer to yes, would the 2nd and 3rd questions both stay as no? Essentially the 2nd question is asking if I considered myself to be a non-resident as of December 18th 2018? Which I only considered myself a resident of Canada from January 1st through December 17th for tax purposes and residency.

Should I file my 2018 tax return prior to submitting to amend the answer on the N-400?

No. I think the higher priority  is to fix the wrong answer.

Do have an account on irs.gov?

@Mike E

Are these the forms I need to fill-out and mail to IRS? The 1040 kinda throws me off because I feel like a lot of it doesn't really apply. Especially on page 2, am I suppose to leave most of it blank and focus more on the 2555 that asks more about foreign income?

Seems like it. Freetaxusa.com does not handle this?

I do

That should tell you if your spouse filed MFJ in 2018 since some of the transcripts go back 5 years

I didn't see any mention of it, and a previous member said they could only see their returns going back 4 years. I'm pretty certain though that he didn't file MFJ because he didn't have any of my Canadian T4s.

Your irs.gov account shows more than tax return transcripts. And the other transcripts can go back more than 4 years

To my knowledge, I didn't see anything concerning the 2555 which I feel is the main document that I need for filling for the foreign income earning exclusion to reflect my taxes already paid. (I don't know if it would just be a case of just including that separately, but I would have though they would have it included for when electronically filing was an option).

With the main 1040 document, am I suppose to be listing any income on the 2nd page? (It followed a similar layout to freetaxusa but seemed more specific to the USA referring to W2s etc. And I'm not requesting a refund so am I suppose to just leave that whole page blank and fill out the financial information on the 2555 instead?

The last time i filled out an actual IRS tax form was 1996 for tax year 1995. I switched to turbotax after that.

Spent about 8 hours going over everything, but I've got my 1040 and 2555 ready to send off, hopefully everything is correct. Thanks for all your help!
