Will OHIP cover me

I'm visiting here in the US and i'm a little sick with i want to see a doc and i want to know if OHIP reimburses. I could return to Canada to see a doc if need be though...

If you are still on OHIP, it may cover you for a pittance (compared to actual cost of exam).

If you haven't received your visa and moved to the US, you're just visiting, hence, you SHOULD be able to use your OHIP.

It will only partially cover the visit, you'll have to pay most of it.

Woah...halt...before you go to the doctors call OHIP and ask! They might cover 30 bucks of your 800 dollar bill! Before I was under my husband's insurance here in the US, over the three year period we dated I went to the hospital twice . (One with strep throat, the other with a nasty sinus infection) Both of the bills were very expensive (600-800 dollars) but I did go to the hospital because I didn't know where else to go.

If you are going to go to an actual doctor it is probably cheaper, but let me tell you, you are going to have to pay some amount for the doctors fee. Most doctors in the US are private doctors and they will charge you for their services as will the doctors office. So just be aware of what is going to happen. If you get OHIP to pay for any portion, it's going to take months and months. (also, you will find that OHIP will be reluctant to pay international bills. Do you not have any other insurance from work?) Also, if you can find a clinic in your area, it will also be cheaper. But again, just know that some free clinics in America or even just clinics in general are not always up to the same standards as our urgent care clinics are in Canada.

Just know what you are doing before you seek medical attention. If you need any kind of test, even if its a simple test on your throat to see if you have strep, it's going to cost you.

I don't know that they'll cover the expenses of medical aid here. I do know whenever I would come to visit Lorry I'd have to purchase medical insurance before leaving Canada just in case I did take ill while here.

That is the smartest way to do it. The last time I came down before I stayed here for good, I purchased CAA travel medical insurance just to be on the safe side. I got that sinus infection and although it took them 5 months, they did pay my very expensive bill.

I'd try everything over the counter and hope I can get home.

I always buy emergency medical insurance before I leave. We're out in the country and we ride the motorcylce all over.
