My husband will scarf down just about anything that doesn't run faster than he does.... but he is greatly enamored of baked macaroni-and-cheese, scalloped potatoes, and chicken enchiladas.... he can polish off an entire casserole dish of any of these all by himself, in just two sittings  I have learned not to count on leftovers any more...

Are you making them "fresh" or using the packaged ones (which use for nutrition info a "serving size" appropriate for a six-MONTH-old)?

Homemade, of course ! Just the thought of mac-and-cheese or scalloped potatoes from a box makes me barf...

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Consdering I started all of this it occurred to me that I couldn't NOT mention the fact that when I was in England Crash and I went to Harry Ramsdens and I became obsessed with their haddock and chips... Maybe not so much the haddock as the batter... mmmm loved loved loved that batter... Kills me that the only place to find a Harry Ramsdens in the US is at Epcot... :(

FYI, it would be good to wean him (back) towards the traditional med(itarranean) dishes (such as kibbeh, hummous, foul--all prepared using till- or olive-oil) for health reasons.

(note: I heard at a conference in Richmond "the three GOOD cooking oils are olive, canola and sesame-seed"--the last one is called 'till' by Tamils)

I think I'd say he likes getting the ethnic food he never had back in the UK... there is a neighborhood near us that has quite a few Vietnamese restaurants and he likes them alot and there are some REAL Mexican restaurants (sorry, I wouldn't classify Taco Bell as Mexican, hahaha). In fact we went to a Mexican restaurant over the weekend and looking around at the diners, the majority were Mexican...I told him, that's what you want to see, because they know what's authentic and if they are enjoying it, I know we aren't getting just some watered down Americanized meal.

He likes to try all kinds of ethnic places...and he can get a hell of a lot more of that here than at home.

 Corn oil did not even exist prior to about 1950 (as it was just too hard to press oil from corn).

Also soybean oil--which almost invariably has a trace of a fishy odour anyway.

I'd always thought sunflower/safflower oil to be good for general cooking (with till oil reserved for dosais and iddlys with chilli powder--NO OTHER oil tastes quite right for that), but I guess I was wrong.
