So recently I’ve been to the DMV to get a learners permit and they said there was an error when they scanned my green card! I had my green card interview back in March and got my green card a few weeks later. They did not tell me much about the error but it was something like USCIS havent updated my status on their system. I believe I’m still a K1 holder on their system when it should be as a permanent resident? I’m so confused. How should I proceed?

I think DMV employees don't know what they're doing.

Try talking to a different person at DMV, or their manager, if not - different DMV location.

GC is a proof of your status.

The thing is I believe other places told me the same thing before the dmv (supermarket and doctors office) however they just said there was an error and I thought it was on their end.

DHS aka USCIS notoriously did this to some people (including me). They “supposed” to update automatically on SAVE check system ( that’s what government agency used to check ur status )  but from time to time, they didn’t do it.  I know it stupid since they can see u have the GC.

But i never need to show my GC to supermarket ( for what ????) and also doctor office ? ( for Whatt ???)  the only time I showed my GC were for DMV and SSA office

Have u get ur unrestricted SSN card from SSA office ? If not, go to that office, and tell them you are GC holder now and want unrestricted SSN card. You will be put on on hold misery for couple of weeks until ur SAVE check update

DMV also can do it for u. Usually they will request it manually to DHS.

don’t bother to call USCIS. They won’t do anything for u.

Would applying for Global Entry at a CBP office also drive a SAVE update?

It’s hard to tell with GLOBAL entry or nexus because they actually do background check. Not like SSA office or DMV when they simply rely heavily to SAVE check result

so that’s why is always important to get that issue ( if people even know about it ) sorted out. But since this issue is not general consensus, many people didn’t know until they hit a problem

My only thought was that CBP is also part of DHS, and when you apply for GE and go to the interview, they scan your GC.  It is just a thought.

Sorry I should rephrase it better in this scenario DHS who can update the status is USCIS. As u know they don’t talk to each other 🤣

@Verrou My green card is my ID so I showed them (supermarket (for alcoholic beverages) and the doctors office for a new patient registration) so they scanned it. I have a SSN I got it with the green card. I never heard about restricted SSN and idk if mine is. Probably not?

Does you SSC have a note saying "Valid for Work Only With DHS Authorization"?  If so, it is a restricted SSC, you can get that note removed with a GC.  If the note is not on your SSC, then you are fine.

Sounds strange, never heard of anybody having to scan a greencard, other than possibly at airports. Grocery store, doctors etc just look at it for identification, they don't scan anything. Neither has DVM every time I have used my greencard there.
