Getting a Lawyer

My PD is October 21, 2022. I haven't gotten my work permit since then, a family friend recommended I get a lawyer.

At this stage, will getting a lawyer make any difference, apart from filing the WOM? Also, the lawyer wants to charge $600 for sending the G-28 form to USCIS.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Are you adjusting through family or employment..your “ priority date “ statement makes me think you are dealing with a preferable category.

Have you tried contacting your congressman for help?

Have you tried requesting an expedite for I-765/I-131 ..w the usual qualified criteria ( about to lose job ..urgent need to travel ..etc)

Dont think it’s ripe for an attorney $$ WOM

u can ,  as @Mike Epoints out try a DIY WOM …less than that G.28 and will at least nudge you case

It's family-based, my wife filed for me and she's a U.S. citizen. I have reached out to a U.S. Senator, but haven't heard back in 6 weeks.

I filed an expedited request for the second time 2 weeks ago, they haven't asked for any evidence. I'm willing to wait if the G-28 might do something. Thanks for your input

Notorious reputation of all Senators to be less responsive than congressmen’s staff.

And with both , you have to poke them once a week . ..so email first then call them . Don’t tell them u just did expedite or they will stop working on it and tell you to wait for USCIS to act ..just keep highlighting hardship to USC wife due to delay

Good you filed expedite .

Not clear if you want feedback on the $600 G-28 .. but yes it sometimes also helps

@savolife G-28 on its own does not solve the problem with case processing. This form just notifies USCIS that a lawyer is now representing you. This may be helpful if you get RFE / interview etc. But does not speed up anything. Writ of Mandamus is one solution, and unless you do it yourself, going to cost several thousand dollars. If you end up hiring a lawyer, at least search the State Bar of <your state> directory to make sure they're real lawyer.
