I like your idea of going to Washinton DC, Baltimore area.

DC has all the great museums which are free, plus it's easy to get around via subway.

Baltimore is only a few hours away and the Inner Harbor is great.

I loved the aquarium there.

New York City is great too, and easy to do things in , is the $500 just airfare, or will that figure in hotels and car rentals as well?

If you go to DC, there are also some great restaurants. And if you want some history, try Old Town Alexandria which is right across the river, has a very European feel (mostly 18th century brick houses), and sports some cute stores and restaurants. From DC, you can also easily get to Annapolis which is a nice town on the Chesapeake Bay.

The $500 is just for the airfare portion. So whatever the price of my ticket, I have to buy the same for my husband.

These are all great ideas. I think Washington, DC/Baltimore might be good. Plus he has friends in Boston so maybe we can take the train or drive up there too.

EVERY place I look up in Europe is $1200 (I can fly to India for that much!). I guess I just want to use up as much of the $500 as I can since I don't get any of the residual for it.
