Just crossed via land border. Dad got his visa endorsed (stamped). However, it shows our date, the class of admission, and at the bottom it shows the “until” date as the expiration date of the IV. Is this normal?

I thought this was supposed to be empty? The visa does say it serves as a temporary I-551 for one year.

Looks like this.

The bottom of the visa says “UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 FOR 1 YEAR”

It should not be empty.  The visa acts as a temporary Green card for a year from the admission date.

That date shows the date of entry.  It should be entered. Without the date, how do you know when the visa holder entered?

My wife's stamp was not empty.

I don't think your visa was properly endorsed if it doesn't show entry date.

Oh okay. I was talking about the September, 20th, 2023 date.

That’s the date that my visa stamp from last year didn’t have but it had the date of endorsement.

Oh alright, thank you.

So my dad should be fine? I’m just confused and hope someone doesn’t think that’s the expiration of his green card.

He's fine...but I think these officers are not well trained in that area.
