I agree OP that you just need to give it a few days.  They will not be shy to reach out if there is any other document needed.

As far as the CEAC being irrelevant after the interview- the status function (“Administrative Processing”, “Refused”, “Issued”) is absolutely still used, and the best source for applicants to see what is happening with their case.

I'm hoping that the "reject" was just for their own notes since it was either a duplicate document or an updated doc that he brought to the interview.

I want to add… strange things happened with my CEAC account. They deleted some of my uploaded forms and I know sometimes REJECTED is something that happens to forms after people submit RFE documents but they are still accepted. It can be a buggy system that’s not perfect.

CEAC is more than buggy, and not enough accountability, I would seek/get feedback from consulate before making conclusions. My docs uploaded before interview were ignored or not checked, and the RFE uploaded was requested to be hand delivered as well. Does not seem like CEAC is that esay to use. Always confirm documents my lesson and send message to traveldocs after any update, for clarification. AP typically precedes issued.

So after the interview if a case has been verbally “approved” it will show Administrative Processing before it shows issued. All cases do have to undergo a final look over before visas are issued.
If they were truly awaiting a document from you & you received a 221G paper it would’ve shown as “Refused” , then “Administrative Processing” after receiving and reviewing the documents, then finally “Issued”.
