Hi, my spouse's interview is in December and today he received notice that it will be a combo interview of N-400 and I-751. The notice says I must accompany him but do they actually call the spouse inside during interview for I-751? I will be out of country at that time so was wondering what we should do. Any help/suggestion will be appreciated. Thank you.

Congrats! When was your spouse 3 year anniversary?

About the combo interview, I saw a lot of responses saying spouses didn’t even get in the building (I guess they were not allowed to and had to wait outside) BUT I wouldn’t risk not going at all.

If you’re going to be out of the country, I highly recommend rescheduling the interview so you’re able to be there (even outside of the building if that’s the case) if the IO has questions for you.

They might not even call you in, but if the notice requires your presence, you should do so.

His 3 year Anniversary will be November 20, 2023.

Yes, I feel that way too that I should be there just in case. The situation is complicated though as I'm out of country for school and will only be home for a month for winter break. So I am scared that it will delay the process a lot considering there's no guarantee when the next date will be.

Also, how do we reschedule? My spouse tried calling the number mentioned in the notice which only goes to automated messages. Is there any way to contact uscis through online about this?

You can call USCIS or send them a message through your USCIS online account.

It's a joint I-751. I was required for our I-751 combo interview.  Yes, I was asked questions, too.

@Fariya Both the applicant and the spouse will be interviewed for i-751. Applicant should not go without their spouse.

I had a combo interview last Thursday, they called my spouse inside first for interview and then called me (the applicant) for an interview.. Also it is stated on the i-751 interview notice to bring your spouse with you.

If you can't attend the interview then I recommend rescheduling the interview appointment. There is also rescheduling appointment info on the interview notice you received in the mail.

Good luck with your immigration journey🤞. This is the last step.

I had what was supposed to be my combo interview last Tuesday. Brought my wife along with me because I assumed she would be required to come in too. When my name was called to go in for the interview, the agent told me that it wouldn’t be necessary for my wife to come in too. She briefly went over my I-751 application for a couple of minutes and that was it. At the end she thanked me for bringing my wife with me just in case anything did come up when going through the I-751 though.

Hi all!

Creating this thread as I don't see one for August filers (if there is one already, please disregard/merge if possible).

Filed my N400 application online earlier this morning and already received the receipt notice and confirmation of biometrics being reused. Checked back in one hour later and the status says "Case Is Being Actively Reviewed By USCIS".

I currently have a pending I-751 (August 2022 filer) and hoping the N400 will move the case along or lead to a combo interview.

Best of luck to all of us! 🙌🏽

Hi stephbd,  Did you get any update on your N400. I filed in Aug as well and the interview happened first week of October. N400 interview went all ok and IO said it is approved but no updates post that. Still waiting for the next steps.  Do have a I-751 pending in parallel

hope it all goes like a smooth sailing. For an I 757, you have to go in with your spouse. If your trip is creating a conflict, i would highly suggest rescheduling the Interview. I have seen half of the cases where a spouse is allowed to sit with a person going for an Interview. In my case my then wife was sitting next to me and i was done in 5 minutes. But it all varies case to case. I am sure there are more experienced people would advise you the same. Since it is going to be a combo so hang tight and don't mess this one up lol. What's the date in December though?

I just read this one otherwise i would have replied all in one shot. Let me tell you something, if you are out of country for school, ask your school for a week off and be here in the US for an Interview, I am sure you can cover that 1-week stuff later but rescheduling an interview may delay the process. I know it is easier said than done but 1 week off from school wouldn't hurt. It is just a suggestion. School would definitely understand and would allow you to go in for a week. If i was you, school stuff would be my secondary worry than my spouse passing her immigration Interview.

I agree & support replies suggesting to push over the school and go with the spouse. If it is pending i 751 + N400 -> according to USCIS, since you are applying based on your marriage, your spouse must be with you. Whether the officer on the day of interview decides for spouse to be in the room of the interview or not - is up to an officer. But if you don't have your spouse there - they may interpret this is a red flag (and they should).

I had friends doing N400 with pending i 751 in Florida in March 2023 and for their case: they first asked for applicant (wife) to go alone and for her husband to stay outside with quote "we won't be needing him". Officer opened the file on the computer - said "God damn it, you don't have i751 processed, go get your man in here". Then when they finished the i751 part, officer asked the husband to stay silent or leave, and proceeded with all the citizenship questions. While they were there - there was a person with same pending i751+N400 situation who arrived alone (didn't bring spouse) - and was denied the interview (luckily that, instead of denied both applications) - they sent him home and he will go through rescheduling process - will add x-xx months to the whole process.

So I would suggest to prioritize USCIS interview or as they say "**ck around and find out" :D

Anyone still waiting for the N-400 interview scheduling notice?. I have applied on August 8 and the status is yet still "Case is actively being reviewed"!

Also, I see many August filers have already done their interviews.

Local offices differ.

Yes, I’m in the same boat. Applied on August 15, status case is being actively reviewed since that day. My 3 year anniversary was on 11/9.

Same here, I applied August 9th and no interview notice yet. Processing times vary due to different factors: local office, 3yr vs 5yr rule, pending i-751, etc..
