When Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents go to homes and the community to arrest non-citizens, it’s common for them to lie about who they are and what they want from the individuals they encounter. The lies are called “ruses.”

What is a ruse?

On the morning of July 19th around 10:00 AM, two ICE officers came to a family’s home in Brooklyn near Coney Island. When the agents, whose clothing was unmarked on the front side, knocked on the door, CM and her friend went to the door but did not open it. The agents told the women in broken Spanish that they wanted to speak with them about the bible.  CM and her friend did not open the door.  The agents did not stay for long and when they turned to leave CM and her friend saw that the back of the jackets said “ICE” on them. The agents then went to several other apartments.

ICE does not only use ruses pretending to be local police. They also use ruses pretending to be potential employers, or even private businesses. They may drive what looks like a delivery van, wear a fake uniform, or carry ladders, clipboards, and other props. They may intentionally be vague about who they are.

Ruses are not only an in-person tactic. ICE agents also use phone ruses as a way to locate their target. Through conducting their surveillance, ICE agents may obtain the phone number of the person they have targeted but not know where to physically find them.

Ruses that ICE has used over the phone include pretending:

  • to be local police and asking you to answer a few questions for them
  • to be local police asking you to meet them because you are the suspect in a criminal case
  • they found your lost ID and need to arrange a time and place for you to pick it up
  • to be calling from a local District Attorney office wanting to arrange a time and place to meet you
  • to call from a local court confirming an upcoming court date or asking for your updated contact information

Worried about ICE agents entering your community? Advocates say: ‘Know your rights’

….

If your door is open, that doesn’t give agents the right to enter. “It is still a private place,” Castañeda added, “but, unfortunately, it could be that they let themselves in, and it will be more difficult for people to assert their rights. ... We’ve heard of many instances where, if someone just slightly opens the door, they push it open and go in. And this is not right, as they need your permission or a judicial search warrant to be able to enter.”

Graybill also warned that ICE agents “have been known to use ruses.” In New Mexico, she said, agents pretended to be delivering pizza to get one family to open the door.

ICE will have a field day with picking up people they are tracking on SmartLink app.

‘Unlike the border crossers that snuck in and went under the radar, those who waited for their CBP ONE appointments and got processed at entry are sitting ducks…once sweeps are deployed.

Am not seeing any easily accessible media coverage of coalition -non profits stepping up. Those without good attorneys are easy pickings …especially as ALL now targeted.

Schools , Hospitals and Churches will be ICE targets.

School District Defies Donald Trump's ICE Raid Plan

Bridgeport Public Schools' announcement came after the acting director of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a directive on January 21 ending the policy that ICE agents would not conduct actions in or near "sensitive" areas, such as churches, hospitals or schools.

Interim school superintendent Dr. Royce Avery reaffirmed that the school district's immigration enforcement guidelines remain in place. Avery said that ICE agents and other government officials are prohibited from entering school buildings, boarding buses or attending school events without prior written approval from the superintendent.

"Every student in Bridgeport, regardless of their immigration status, has the right to feel secure and supported in our schools," he said

What to do if ICE shows up in California: Immigration resource guide

Here are some tips if ICE shows up at your door:

  • The right to remain silent – it's OK to refuse to speak to ICE. Immigrant rights advocates say not to answer any questions including where you were born or how you entered the United States.
  • The National Immigration Law Center advises that people carry a know-your-rights card,  also known as  a "red card, or "tarjetas rojas," as well as any valid immigration document, and show them if an immigration officer stops you. Red cards in Spanish can be found at the bottom of this page, or you can order one here.  Know-your-rights cards can be printed here.
  • The center also advises that you not open your door simply because ICE agents tell you to. ICE officials must have a warrant signed by a judge, not a deportation officer, to enter your home. To be valid, a warrant must have your correct name and address on it, according to the National Immigration Law Center. Ask the person at your door to slip the warrant under the door to see who it was signed by. If it was not signed by a judge, the Asian Law Caucus said to tell the officers you do not consent to a search and call your rapid response hotline. (*See numbers below)
  • Immigrants also have a right to speak to their lawyers, and advocates say not to sign any document before speaking to a lawyer. You can simply say, "I need to speak to my attorney." A list of lawyers can be found here.
  • Immigration advocates advise that parents tell ICE agents that they have children if they're worried about being arrested.
  • Create a safety plan such as memorizing the phone number of family and friends you can call if you're arrested, figure out who will watch your children if you're detained, and keep important documents, like birth certificates, in a safe place that family and friends can access if necessary.
  • Make sure your loved ones know how to find you in an ICE detention center by looking online. Be sure they know your alien registration number.
  • Report and document raids and arrests. One hotline is the United We Dream’s hotline to report a raid: 1-844-363-1423. Or texts can be sent to 877877.
  • If ICE calls or sends a letter to reschedule a check-in, that can often mean they want to detain you. You can call the Asian Law Caucus at 415-896-1701 for legal advice and updates on whether raids are happening elsewhere.

Aren't legal immigrants required to carry their valid immigration documents with them?  Maybe if sanctuary cities or sanctuary states like the People's Republic of California would let ICE into their jails and prisons to remove illegal immigrants with a criminal record, innocent people would not be caught up in the ICE net when ICE agents have to go searching for them in the greater community.  I do wish all federal aid would be cut off to these "progressive" cities and states, maybe the DOJ can ignore the calls from the locals when they ask for help.

Btw, what is "United We Dream's", can someone on the left actually come up with a grammatically correct name?

Lastly, there is an existing thread discussing Trump's immigration activities, so maybe these should be shared in that thread?

Yep, both sides have attempted these kinds of tactics in various states, but for some reason when leftist do it it is painted as altruistic by the synchronized main stream media, but when the right does it, they are criminals.
