Former state Rep. Chuck Basye, a Rocheport Republican who habitually issues profane insults to opponents through email and social media, filed Tuesday to run in the central Missouri district. He filed at the urging of Senate Majority Leader Cindy O’Laughlin, who didn’t want to hand Democrats a seat held for 16 years by the GOP. 

He’s running against former state Rep. Stephen Webber, a Columbia Democrat and a frequent target of Basye’s often lewd attacks. 

One example: Last year, Basye told a woman on Facebook that she was “loving on Stephen Webber’s bulls**t,” before falsely claiming Webber was gay and only mad at Basye because he’d defeated Webber’s “boyfriend” in a state legislative race years earlier.

What would be interesting would be any background information to suggest whether or not his statements, even if lewd, have substance. Alas, apart from the candidate’s denials, which can always be excluded on account of him being a politician whose lips are moving, this information is somewhat lacking from the article.

There is no information on the company's website about its services or who runs it. Newsweek contacted the company by website form and a spokesperson for Trump by email to comment on this story.

It's concerning to see a company formed just six months ago suddenly receive over $3.1 million from Donald Trump's network of political committees, particularly since there is virtually no public information about this company," Saurav Ghosh, the Campaign Legal Center's director of federal campaign finance reform, told NBC News. "Who works there, what services they offer or have provided, and whether Trump's payments to 'Launchpad Strategies LLC' are for bona fide services or are, instead, actually payments to other vendors funneled through a mere corporate shell."

 

"Transparency about how political campaigns are spending their donors' money is vital to the integrity of our elections," Ghosh added. "Voters have a right to know how candidates are spending their money when deciding whom to support in November."
