The collapse of bipartisan immigration reform: A guide for the perplexed

The team negotiated for four months to produce this bill. It took less than four days for its support among Republicans to collapse. Why?

The easiest explanation is that Republicans in both the House and Senate yielded to objections from their all-but-certain presidential nominee, former president Donald Trump. Once the House Speaker stated publicly that he would not allow the Senate bill to reach the House floor for a vote, Republican senators were unwilling to run the political risk of supporting a measure that would not become law.

https://www.brookings.edu/articles/the-collapse-of-bipartisan-immigration-reform-a-guide-for-the-perplexed/

how many times have we heard and seen "immigration reform" (many times) and how many times has it ever solved a problem (none).
we have plenty of solutions to immigration reform - it's called existing law - enforce those laws would be a good start on "reform"

Beyond that, why didn't the Democrats in the Senate take up HR 2?

This, as we've exhaustively presented, is an understatement.

Some give and take diplomacy could put us on the right track. Everyone agrees border security is crucial…

I am not convinced that every Democrat agrees border security is crucial considering the Senate Bill that was proposed.  HR2 secures the border, and eliminates or at least reduces a lot of the enticements the current administration has put out there, but the Senate Bill just allows the cartels controlling things in Mexico to limit the amount of border crossings so as to not trigger any additional enforcement.  So when the Democrats really get serious about securing the border (a long uphill battle for them to regain any credibility except from the heavily gaslighted), and actually act, maybe we can talk about reforming the legal immigration laws that currently exist such as expanding family based limits, eliminating country specific limits (those from India on an H1B should not have to wait 15+ years for a GC just because of some arbitrary DIE limit), expanding the H1B and agricultural worker visas, etc.

I am not holding my breath the Democrats will get serious considering the bait and switch bill they presented in the Senate even though the Democrats know how important this issue is to the electorate.

Sheila Jackson Lee Named Head Of Harvard Astronomy Department

CAMBRIDGE, MA — In the wake of claiming the moon is made of gas and the sun is "almost" too hot to get close to, Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has been named the new head of Harvard University's Astronomy Department.

The Board of Overseers at the prestigious Ivy League institution was reportedly wowed by Jackson Lee's insights into the cosmos, with the school immediately seeking to get in touch with her about the department head position.  [...]

Considering the lack of trust with the Federal agencies, maybe it is best to let this die.  The Feds are going to do anything they want anyway with no consequences.
