The real purpose of the cover letter is to provide a table of contents.  No need for explanations or other text except to name you both and list what's in the package.  That's for a mailed filing.  No need for an online filing.

I would add though, that if your proof of relationship is very long (mine was 20+ pages) I would add a contents just for ease for whoever reviews your case. I added a contents for mine, my logic was to make it as easy as possible for someone to approve my case! It's not a necessity though.

@Micam @pushbrk @Jeanne Adil @Dashinka @JeanneAdil Thank you all, So please correct me if I am wrong. I am worried about making a mistake :(

I'm filing I-130 online for my wife who lives abroad.

I'm submitting the form online and i'm filling everything they ask me, and I am only uploading documents that they ask for during online process.

For example; if they are not asking for "birth certificate" it is not needed.

It looks very simple and light so I wanted to make sure I'm not making a mistake.

What i am about to submit is:

Questions that I answered

1 passport style photo of each,

Proof of marriage,

Proof of us citizenship,

Proof of relationship, (Bank statements, vacation receipts)

Form I-130A (filled in PDF and uploaded)

Photos of together

That's it. No birth certificates, no tax returns, no cover letter.

Everything is uploaded as PDF.

Everything is translated in english.

And I'm uploading originals in foreign language too.

Does this sound correct?

thank you if someone can take time answer.

Good to go.  Note that the birth certificate of the Petitioner is one possible evidence of US Citizenship, but only if born in the USA.  Birth Certificate of the foreign spouse is needed at the NVC stage.

thank you very much you were great help.

one last question about 130a. I left "blank" "empty" in the fields where it asked if "interpreter helped my spouse filled the form" we didn't put N/A in all of the fields. we just left them empty. do you think this will cause a denial or RFE
