I think that the last one is most likely.

Based on the part of the SCOTUS ruling which says that evidence regarding a POTUS in his official duties cannot be used in any trial, he might just have to vacate the verdicts.

Good thinking, but if you're right, I think my first reason becomes more likely then.

Remember that Trump attorneys tried to get the judge to delay the whole trial until after SCOTUS had ruled on this matter.  He refused.  That decision by this acting judge could prove to be monumental.

Merchan wrote that he’ll rule Sept. 6, and the next date in the case would be Sept. 18, “if such is still necessary.”

Some people looked at that as the strongest case against Trump.   The NY case will, if it survives appeals, won't result in jail time, and the Georgia case is falling apart.  There must be a LOT of disappointed dems crying right now.

93 page decision- Jack Smith was not appointed in accordance with the "appointment clause" of the Constitution.  For one thing, he was not appointed under the consent of the Senate.
