Hmm, so it seems Gerry Connolly (D) just admitted that Trump was getting too close to the Biden corruption with his phone call to Zelenskyy.  Wasn’t that the whole issue behind the first impeachment?  And now we get the politicized DOJ going after Old Corrupt Joe’s, sorry, slow, steady and corrupt Joe’s political opponents.  By the Democrat/Leftist logic, should Biden be impeached?

And let’s not beat around the bush, Jan 6 was a failed coup.

Two hundred random protesters, apparently “led” by a guy in a moo-hat, does not a coup make.

The propensity of the Democrats and their media cronies to bandy about serious words like “insurrection” and “coup” only shows their obvious contempt for the education level of the American public.

Ask the Hungarians what a real insurrection looks like and then see how 1956 turned out for them. If you want to look back in history, look at Taiping, China, between 1850 and 1864 and then fathom how many people died. January 6th was not an insurrection by any sane definition of the word.

And calling it a coup attempt is even more of a stretch. No sane person would try and equate what happened with Greece in ‘67, Pakistan in ‘99, or Ukraine in ‘04/‘05.

January 6th was a protest at an election many believed to be rigged and still do to this day. Calling it anything else is a gross exaggeration.

Trump impeachment #1 for Abuse of Power and messing with Congress , was of course a political move . All impeachments are by definition political means of checks/balance at disposal of both parties.

impeachment #2 was for Jan 6 “Peaceful Hang Mike Pence”

He survived both and will shortly have them “expunged” 😂by his party

The first impeachment trial of Donald Trump, the president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, began on December 18, 2019, during the 116th United States Congress. The House of Representatives adopted two articles of impeachment against Trump: abuse of powerand obstruction of Congress. Trump was acquitted by the Senate on February 5, 2020.[2]

Trump's impeachment came after a formal House inquiryfound that he had solicited foreign interference in the 2020 U.S. presidential election to help his re-election bidand then obstructed the inquiry itself by telling his administration officials to ignore subpoenas for documents and testimony. The inquiry reported that Trump withheld military aid[a] and an invitation to the White House to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy in order to influence Ukraine to announce an investigation into Trump's political opponent Joe Bidenand to promote a discredited conspiracy theory that Ukraine, not Russia, was behind interference in the 2016 presidential election. A phone call between Trump and Zelenskyy on July 25, 2019 was particularly important according to Congressional testimony from Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, a member of the National Security Council who listened to the call from the White House Situation Room.[4][5]

The inquiry stage of Trump's impeachment lasted from September to November 2019 in the wake of Vindman's August whistleblower complaint alleging Trump's abuse of power.[4] In October, three congressional committees (Intelligence, Oversight, and Foreign Affairs) deposed witnesses. In November, the House Intelligence Committee held a number of public hearings in which witnesses testified publicly; on December 3, the committee voted 13–9 along party lines to adopt a final report. The total number of witnesses testifying either publicly or in closed door sessions was 17. A set of impeachment hearings before the House Judiciary Committee began on December 4; on December 13, it voted 23–17 along party lines to recommend two articles of impeachment for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The committee released a lengthy report on the impeachment articles on December 16. Two days later, the full House approved both articles in a mostly party-line vote, with all Republicans opposing, along with three Democrats. This made Trump the third U.S. president in history to be impeached and marked the first fully partisan impeachment where a U.S. president was impeached without support for the impeachment from the President's own party.

The articles were submitted to the Senate on January 16, 2020, initiating the trial. The trial saw no witnesses or documents being subpoenaed, as Republican senators rejected attempts to introduce subpoenas. On February 5, Trump was acquitted on both counts by the Senate, as neither count received 67 votes to convict. On Article I, abuse of power, the vote was 48 for conviction, 52 for acquittal. On Article II, obstruction of Congress, the vote was 47 for conviction, 53 for acquittal. Republican Mitt Romney, the only senator to break party lines, became the first U.S. senator to vote to convict a president of his own party in an impeachment trial, as he voted for conviction on abuse of power.[6] Trump remained in office for the remainder of his term.

Two days after the acquittal, Trump fired two witnesses who had testified about his conduct in the impeachment inquiry: Ambassador Gordon Sondland and Alexander Vindman,[7]together with Vindman's twin brother Yevgeny.[7]

On June 23, 2023, Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthysaid that he supported an effort to hold a vote "expunging" both impeachments of Trump.[8]

I think it has more to do with Trump upending things inside DC, and the fear that instill with the political elite and establishment bureaucrats.

Yes, impeachment is a purely political activity.  My point was that a vaunted Democrat member of Congress actually told us Trump was impeached when he was looking for dirt on the Biden's during a hearing showing there was in fact dirt to be found.  I know, slow, steady and corrupt.

Those attempts began, in reality, the morning after he defeated the pantsuit princess.

And in keeping  with the theme of this thread, the judge in FL is saying May 2024.  Hmm, right while the primaries are wrapping up, and to my knowledge, "Superman" Jack Smith did not push for a speedier trial, instead I understand he needed to get to Subway.

Not sure why there is so much walking back of what the Jan 6 demonstrators wanted to do: stop the assembled Congress ( our  lawmakers)  from transferring power.

I doubt Hang Mike Pence was a little harmless humor. Historically these two headlines pretty much read the same.

We two agree here that impeachment #1 was for Trump looking for “dirt” on Biden..and of course asking foreign country to interfere…since he did not manage to dig up anything. ..actions were deemed worthy of impeachment.
The what if’s of post probe / process align with repeated MAGA conspiracy theories bandied about.

The FL Judge , a Trump appointee , decided on the May, 2024 trial date. .so I would say defense scored a little win here …mild setback for Our Hero Jack....I anticipate a slew of such delays ahead

Cannon cited the the extensive evidence presented in the caseas one of the reasons she pushed the start date to next year.

This evidence includes "more than 1.1 million pages of non-classified discovery produced thus far (some unknown quantity of which is described by the Government as "non-content"), at least nine months of camera footage (with disputes about pertinent footage), at least 1,545 pages of classified discovery ready to be produced (with more to follow), plus additional content from electronic devices and other sources yet to be turned over," Cannon wrote in her order.
