The new Roomba was unboxed and let loose in the casa today.

Just as predicted, Cat T-B. suspiciously tried to inspect it but turned tail in terror when it approached her.

When it returned to its base, Cat T-B. hesitantly approached and tapped it twice with her paw.

She then loudly voiced her opinion of this invasive outrage.

They have little fleece sweaters, heated beds... and my husband keep the house warmer for them than he did for me 😆

Did you do it?  

 

I bought a second LR3, used from Marketplace.  You can tell my older unit is an older unit...the newer one is a touch quieter and less "beta" version than mine.  

 

Still just buy the litter from Costco.  Having a good tracker mat seems to make all the difference in the world for how much ends up outside of where the boxes are!

No I didn't do it. I think I will get one with the hopper though. Kids arrived and I totally forgot.

As a dog person I never thought I'd be coming here to seek advice, but here I am.

 

The wife wants to buy her 5 and 7 year old grandsons a cat.  The wife's daughter (grandson's mom) has mild allergies to cats.  My wife thinks that a hairless cat (Sphynx cat) is the answer.  I'm against it for several reasons.  The children's father is not keen on getting any new animals (they had a small dog that passed away a few years ago).  Not only do I find this breed of cat extremely ugly, I am worried about them taking care of it.

 

What can you tell me?  Do these cats require extra attention?  Of course this would be a house cat.

People aren't allergic to cats, but to the dander.  Strike one.

The biggest cruelty would be to bring a cat home and then take it back.  Cats need forever homes.

Every cat has its own personality.  Cat T-B. is at least as high-maintenance as a demanding wife.

Do not buy an animal if the whole family is not ready for it.  

 

About allergies, my husband is allergic to cats, but does not react to ours.  They are Devon Rexes, so they have hair, but less on some parts of their body, and it is wavy/curly.    You can see on this breeder's page that some have more hair, some less.
Sphynx cats tend to need more care (baths, clothes to keep warm...).

I find that having two cats is easier than having only one.  They can play cat games together in the middle of the night, instead of asking us.
