The incandescent light bulb ban is upon us

 

The government has been warning us of this plot for years and this week the clock will strike twelve for you fans of incandescent light bulbs.  The day of the ban arrives with the month of August.  At that point, it will become illegal to manufacture or sell the traditional bulbs and Americans will only be able to purchase LED lights from retail outlets.  Why are they doing this?  [...]

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I will say that my experience with LEDs has been highly variable.  I have some that last a little more than a few months, and others that last a bit longer.  To be honest I had better experience with compact fluorescents.

Yeah, I was not promoting them, just comparing them to LEDs. 

 

In the end, lights go out and a sign of the 2nd law of thermodynamics is people not replacing those lights.

I bought 4 maybe 5 - 12 packs at HD. LED's do not produce heat and my reptiles need heat lamps.

 

The price increase on heat lamps for reptiles and other critters is going to be crazy high. much higher then they already are.

I can still remember in elementary school when the teacher brought in an incubator with a 60 watt (I think) bulb to incubate some chicken eggs.

We had the block heater plugged in and a light bulb shoved in too. The only way to get the car started the next day.
