Received the passport with the visa in it today.  Just now.   The IV issue date is 25JUL2023 with an expiration date on 30DEC2023..It is an IR1 visa.

Why is it good for only 5 months or so?  Too late to call the embassy in Bogota.  On the bottom of the visa it states:

212(g) (2) (B)

IV DOCS IN CCD

UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I-551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR

Any ideas on what this is about?

Isn't 5 months enough for you?

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

It's all normal.  The expiration date is tied directly to the date of the medical exam.  Medical exams are valid for a maximum of 6 months. Thus, when the medical exam expires, the visa expires (maximum is 6 months....sometimes less).  In my wife's case, her visa also had an expiration date of 5 months.

The entry at the bottom of the visa means the records were transmitted electronically...so no envelope to hand to CBP at POE.  It also means that, once, the visa has been stamped by CBP at the US border (endorsed), the visa will act as a temporary Green Card for a year or until the plastic one arrives.  You waited for 2 years.  This part is done.  All is in order.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Congrats on getting the visa!!🥰 It's possible that your spouse has a time limit to enter the US, usually 6 months from the time your spouse completed the medical. I know my husband was told he had six months to enter after his visa was issued. He entered the US at the 6-month mark and everything was smooth. He was given the entry stamp in his passport and was told that it was a temporary Green Card valid for one year.

Fortunately, no Removal of Conditions is NOT in your future since you were married in 2020.

means she didn’t receive the complete series of a certain vaccine but received a waiver to enter…
