Was a month of living with Javier in jail and 3 years of separation not enough punishment for the law that I didn't break?????????

That is not 'punishment' in the legal sense since you volunteered to do it, it was not forced on you.

Ok. So why does anyone come on here and complain? After all, they also volunteered for this process.

Laws are there for a reason. What good are they if the govt just says "ah #### it, do what you want, we don't care"

they do that.. when they steal something from our store.. if they show to court.. that's it.. no jail, no warning, no bail (since it's larseny)... so, it's basically a fukc it.. dont do it again please

Complaining is one thing. Calling it "punishment" and implying that you paid for someone elses crime is another.

You may not see it that way, but you haven't walked in my shoes. Believe me, I've paid for it. And continue to pay for it.

Right, but it isn't a legal "punishment". Just a minor semantical disagreement, is all.

Well let me put it to you this way-knowing that this reform, if passed, will make it a matter of us filing the I-212 Waiver only (instead of both I-212 and I-601) and may shorten our wait time to a couple of months rather than 5 or more months...this all being IF our Advisory Opinion is approved...would you really like us not to have that? That little silver lining and bit of hope?

you're saying that no one gets punished for stealing? That's entirely not true. There are steps our legal system takes with varying degrees of punishment. First time stealing under $300 worth of merchandise or whatever is not a felony, but it is still a misdemeanor. That still goes on your record, and you get some form of punishment... fines, jail, court supervision, probation, whatever. But there is a consequence. Anything over $300 is a felony and the laws become stiffer for those people who violate the law.

btw.... larceny is not only a petty crime. There is petty larceny (misdemeanor) or grand larceny (felony).

back to topic.... I agree with the illegal is illegal statement. I do not think that illegals should be ignored. I do believe they should be punished and we should find some way to curb the illegal inflow. I do not believe in anarchy as a form of government, and if we start throwing out laws, it seems like that is where we are heading and that's not a very good thought. We're not the only country that has an immigration policy that has to be followed if you chose to come. And yes, ours can be strict at times. However, it's not as strict as other countries can be. Denmark comes to mind. Anyway, that's just my opinion on it.

Illegal is illegal. Not all who commit illegal acts are criminals. I don't agree with amnesty, but I do support the reform that hopefully will take place because it has the potential to shorten our waiting time from insanely long to ridiculously long. I'm one of those doing it "the right way" whatever that means, who the reform will help. Should I not get that help? Was a month of living with Javier in jail and 3 years of separation not enough punishment for the law that I didn't break?????????

not all who commit illegal acts are criminals... this i will agree with... there are differences between criminal and civil law

it is a wonderful thing that you and javier are now doing things legally (not that you ever did it illegally)... i do not have anything against you or javier... anyone who wishes to come to this country is welcome as far as i am concerned as long as they do so via legal channels and become a functioning member of society (not just a drain)

i understand your frustration with being separated... here on vj, we have ALL been separated from our significant others... everyone can vent their frustrations with it... thats NOT a problem... it becomes a problem when ppl tend to think they are being singled out... or that THEIR problem is worse than everyone elses... that they are more of a martyr than others... we are all paying/have paid a price to be with the one we love

i know you want something that will help you be with javier faster... but one thing you have to remember, is that the govt will tack on undesirable aspects to bills that otherwise would be favored, just to get something through... this bill will affect more than just yourself... when you say that you want it to pass for your own small benefit (its not going to be a magic wand that brings javier to you overnight), do you also then not care how it will affect anyone else?

MissLiss, i like you... i have from the day that i first read a post by you... we agree on many, many things... but i am afraid that this is one issue that we just dont see eye to eye

and only then, will you find the meaning of happiness."

i don't know where you live or what your company does (maybe it's not pressing charges against the theives) because the law is very clear on this.
