Name change with pending ROC

HI all!

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum.

I applied to remove conditions on my green card in November 2022. Since then, my divorce has been completed and I want to go back to using my maiden name. I wrote a cover letter when I applied to remove conditions stating that my divorce was pending and I'm expecting a RFE for that. I haven't officially started the process of changing my name back to my maiden name (with social security etc) because I didn't know if it would complicate my green card application, as the names will be different.

My question is.. when can I contact social security to change my name back to my maiden name and how will this affect my pending ROC.

Any help is appreciated. Please be kind.. I am not knowledgeable in this area and have never been divorced before.

O would not change anything with ROC. Let it ride with your married name.

Cone N400, apply using your maiden name and provide change of name documents.

As for SSN, I'd do that now. Totally independent from immigration

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

If I change my name with SS now, will I run into problems when using my greencard (when it comes) because it will have a different name?

Did you fill out your ROC with your maiden name and list the married name in other names used?

The thing about going back to your maiden name is you can do just that. When you assume a married name you aren't really doing a name change. You are totally allowed to assume the married name or not. Getting a name change is done through the courts and those change the name on your birth certificate. Assuming a married name is just that assuming it.

If you didn't change the name on your ROC forms to your maiden name, it would be easier to wait until you get an interview (if you get one) or N400, but here also don't ask for a legal name change just change your forms to your maiden name and add the previous last name to the proper spot for other names used.
