Should I enter POE with my Fiance

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site, and looking to learn from your experiences with the POE process; this part of the immigration process stresses me out the most, since the CBP officer has the power deny entry even if my fiancé has an approved K1. This would obviously cause a ton of problems, since my fiancé will have ended his lease in his home country and sold his vehicle prior to moving to the U.S.

General Info:

POE: JFK

Visa Type: K1

Fiancé Nationality: Hungarian

English Ability: Fluent

Relationship Length: 4.5 Years

Visits Together: 6 (since 2019)

Questions:

1.  Will being in a same-sex relationship cause CBP to give us a harder time?

2.  Does it reduce the likelihood of problems if I enter the POE with my fiancé? Or would it be better for me to wait to pick him up at baggage claim? I am willing to fly into the U.S. with him if it makes a positive difference.

3.  If entering together, what line should we go in; the USC line or the Immigrant line?

4.  Do you have any other advice on making the POE process go smoothly?

Thanks for your advice everyone!

1. No

2. IMHO, yes. I entered with my fiancee

3. Neither. The visitor line.
4. At the port of entry, non CBP employees will demand you use the U.S. citizen line and/or separate from

your fiance. Do not listen. They have no power over you or CBP.

Better than 99.99 percent chance of him being admitted.

We entered together- went through the same line (visitor).
no issues- CBP was super friendly and helpful- they processed my husband first before figuring out my entry and sending us to secondary.
I as the beneficiary REALLY APPRECIATED my husband flying in with me… he was a total rock and when I couldn’t answer questions (where do you want the green card to go?) he was my voice…

I know you are going through K1 but seriously having my partner with me was great and if USCs can afford the flights so they enter with their partners as support I totally say DO IT!

TBH- some CBP can be very abrasive but I’ve mostly had positive experiences. They should respect your relationship but if they don’t being together will help both of you out.

We entered across a land border together (fiance had flown from NZ into Vancouver).  You definitely can, but must you?  I don't think so.

The only time in all my years on VJ that I've seen anyone be turned away has been when there was an issue with the visa itself (i.e., the beneficiary got married before arriving) etc, or the one who joked "maybe" when asked by CBP if he intended on marrying his fiance.  This is exactly the type of thing my kiwi would have joked about, so I put the fear of god in him to not do anything of the kind.
