How to add joint sponsor benefits?

Hello,

My father in law will be my joint sponsor, for the last year he made enough money for a household of 4 people, almost 5, so it’s enough for us, household of 3.

But with his military disability benefits he would qualify for sponsoring a household of 8 or more.

They’re permanent and non taxable, should we add them in the affidavit of support? If yes how?

Yes.  List all his income.  It does not have to be taxable.  His VA awards letter is proof of income.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Okay thank you! Do you know where I should add this income in the form? There is a section for income and one for assets, should I just add it to his taxable income and then add the VA awards letter with an explanation?

There is no box for "taxable" income. It is added under his annual household income.  Part 6, item 20.  It is not added to assets.

Maybe more clear.  Take a pay stub from his "job".  Multiply the gross income for a full pay period times the number of pay periods in a full year.  Example for pay every two weeks.  2,000 every two weeks, times 26 pay periods is 52k current income from work.  Then say 3,000 monthly from the VA is 36k.  Current income is stated as 88k.  Document with a current pay stub and his 2023 award letter from the VA.

Numbers for the tax section will NOT include the VA benefits.
