Hi there,

Looking to get information on documentation needed/steps/current biometric timelines to apply for a I131 re-entry permit for my parents. My parents received permanent residency last year and visited the US for a couple of months. They are back in their country of citizenship right now and will be visiting back within the 6 month time frame from their last visit.

As part of this visit they intend to apply for the re-entry permit to get a 2 year extension since they need more time back home to figure out logistics for move, long term plans, etc (they are not sure if they want to keep their GC status or apply for citizenship here)

I've searched the group because i'm specifically trying to see what all is required as part of their I131 filing (form does seem pretty straight forward) but not sure if any additional evidence needs to be submitted to help extension approval (determine legitimacy of their request)

Also, I understand they have to come here, file paperwork, and stay here until biometrics - trying to see how long on average USCIS takes for a biometric appointment after filing (California). If anyone knows of any existing forums already dedicated to this information (guidelines/steps on what needs to be done, what additional information should be submitted, timelines, etc) I would appreciate if you could share a link to it. If not, if anyone can share any useful insights that would be very helpful as well!

Thank you

They can:

1. come to U.S.

2. file I-131

3. Wait for I-131 receipt. Usually 2 weeks or less.

4. leave before biometrics are scheduled

5. optionally reschedule biometrics (perhaps using the online procedure : https://www.uscis.gov/newsroom/news-releases/uscis-launches-online-rescheduling-of-biometrics-appointments ) to a more convenient time

6. return to U.S. for biometrics

7. move permanently to U.S. within  2 years of the I-131 receipt or if issued, the expiration of the re-entry permit

Thank you. Do you know how long the biometric scheduling usually takes? I don’t think traveling back is an option because it’s going to be pretty expensive

No idea. But per step 5 in my response, it should not matter.

Then file I-407.
