Well we waited 2 years so far.  Another wait coming up I am afraid.  The embassy wanted a divorce decree from 25 years ago.  I had submitted a divorce stipulation which looks like a decree. The NVC accepted all my documents.

They kept my wife's passport and told me to send in the decree.  I called the clerk of court and they promptly sent me the decree.  They said to use a special DHL that will send it free.  So I took the decree  in an envelope.  The clerk said there was no authorization.  I told them I would pay for it.  They said no. That is not possible.

So I went to another DHL and sent it to the consular section for visas.

I don't know how long a delay this will be.  Anybody run into this problem?

Many people encounter a document delay unfortunately . It is good that they kept her passport. As long as you submitted the correct documentation the process should move forward

I think it will.  I should have looked closer at the divorce stipulation.  After the acceptance at the NVC I thought the document was ok.

Colombia is pretty quick about issuing the visa as soon as they get the correct documents.  I have a friend who was missing a document at her interview and it took about 2 weeks to resolve the whole thing and get her visa.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have experienced the same problem. My fiancé was given a yellow sheet at the interview that stated she had to send the embassy original copies of my prior divorces. The sheet stated they need to be sent in via DHL pursuant to instructions on the website. Those instructions state something about a Courier-In Authorization Certificate. However online it appears that this applies to documents being sent in before the interview, not after. And there is no link to create the certificate. So I am lost. Should the documents be sent from the US to the embassy in Bogota or from within Colombia to the embassy?
