Hi,

If you review my timeline, I arrived two years ago (Mar 29, 2021) and filed for the removal of conditions four months ago. My biometrics have been completed, and now when I check the status, I receive the following message, which appears to be a standard response. I am aware that I can apply for N-400 around two years and nine months, which would be around Dec 24, 2023 (this year)

"As of March 29, 2023, we are actively reviewing your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, Receipt Number XXXXXX. Our records show nothing is outstanding at this time. We will let you know if we need anything from you. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address."

1. I'm curious about the wait timings. I see the processing times, but I don't understand the abbreviations CSC and VSC. It would be helpful to have a glossary on the page explaining these abbreviations.

2. Is it possible that I may not receive the physical GC due to potential overlap with filing for N-400 and the current backlog caused by COVID-19? My extension is for 24 months

3. Is it realistic to expect a one-year wait time for the citizenship or even permanent GC, assuming the case has no flaws?

Thank you.

I have seen one as short as a few weeks, while others have waited more than 3 years (My wife).  I advise to file your N-400 as soon as you are eligible....and hope.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Same advice as @Crazy Cat extension letter are for 36 or even 48 months. When I applied for my N-400 (a little over 1 year and 3 months from my I-751) the total process took 4 months from application to oath. My I-751 was approved without a interview by the officer that did all the citizenship interview.

I hope you get the same. Good luck

As everyone here has said filing your N400 as soon as eligible will greatly jump start your I-751 if it gets backlogged. We filed the I-751 in January 2022 and filed the N-400 as soon as eligible in January 2023. The N-400 was approved and oath taken in April 2023. I-751 was approved also but only as an afterthought it seems. We did not get a 10 year green card naturally. File your N-400 as soon as eligible!

4 years, 11 months, 2 weeks and 3 days

Citizenship Complete!

USCIS is like a box of chocolates, you never know what kind of answer you are going to get!!!!

Filed removal of conditions in September 2020, and still waiting.

Can apply for citizenship in 70 days, so we'll see if it has any effect.

After waiting 40 months for our I-751 (filed in March 2019) to be processed, wife filed her N-400 online in Aug 2022.   Both the I-751 and N-400 were approved in Dec 2022.   She took the oath in Jan 2023.  It certainly worked for us!!

Seems you should have been eligible long ago.

Oh... OK.... Good luck.  Filing online under the 5 year rule was very easy.

The earliest you can apply (3 year rule, 90-days early) for N-400 is

12/30/2023.

I'd apply the first week of January 2024 to be safe. If you file too early, it will get denied.

Follow-up: I have e-filed N400. This is what I see on my USCIS dashboard.

How many interviews should I expect? additionally, how useful is the estimated time?

You can either get:

- Combo interview for both I-751 and N-400

- Two separate interviews for I-751 and N-400

- Get only N-400 interview with I-751 being decided without interview

The estimated times is largely inaccurate, just like I-751 processing times.
