Every year we hear the warnings that it could be another “worst” hurricane season and it doesn’t come to pass.

This year, the warm water in the Atlantic was supposed to offer a fertile breeding ground for major storms, but the developing El Niño is predicted to mitigate that possibility.

https://www.corelogic.com/intelligence/the-science-behind-the-storm-el-nino-and-the-2023-hurricane-season/#:~:text=An ENSO-neutral or El,could offset those limiting factors.

even so, the warnings have to go out, loud and strong, to keep Climate Change in the forefront of the news cycle. There’s money to be had.

Interesting comments by the EV acolyte.  Why is it unacceptable that it is cheaper to fill up with petrol than charging with a public charger?  To me it is inevitable as the demand on power increases, the cost will increase, and visa versa for petrol.  I also love the 80% charge at home comment, I see that a lot, and maybe it was true when EVs were less than 1% of the market, but if EVs do in fact replace ICE over time, a lot of folks will only have the public charging option.

Ginny Buckley, founder and CEO of Electrifying.com, said: “With little over six years to go until 2030, it’s unacceptable that in some cases it’s cheaper to fill up a petrol car than it is to charge an electric car, and those without off-street parking - around one-third of drivers nationally - are the ones who are paying the price for this.

“With an estimated 80 per cent of electric car charging taking place at home, we can clearly see that this discrepancy is proving to be yet another barrier to electric car ownership.”

Just another example of the outlandish estimates we get from those some call "experts".  Although the plastic getting into the ocean is not good, the amount estimated was off by just an order of magnitude.

How Much Plastic Is Really In Our Oceans? Researchers Have A Surprising New Answer

But, new research has suggested the amount we’re polluting the sea with this particular synthetic material isn’t quite as terrible as previously assumed. It’s a small win, but still worth noting.

The study, published on Monday in the journal Nature Geoscience, found that around 500,000 metric tons of plastic end up in the sea every year.

Half of this comes from land, while the rest stems from the fishing industry’s equipment.

Clearly, this is still a huge amount to be polluting our environment every 365 days – and the amount of plastic found in the ocean is still increasing by around 4% every year.

That means the current amount of plastic in the oceans could double within 20 years.

But, it’s a big change from a study dating back to 2015 which estimated there were eight million metric tons going in the Earth’s oceans just from rivers every year.

Hmm, I wonder if PG&E will have ultimate control, or if the control will come from Sacramento.

West Coast utility CEO wants EVs to save California’s power grid

PG&E, California’s largest utility, is pushing General Motors to expand on a pilot program from last year and install bidirectional charging software across its current fleet of electric vehicles.

Meanwhile, Ford Motor Co. has been promoting its F-150 Lightning electric truck as a backup power source on wheels, capable of reenergizing homes during an outage, and Tesla has plans to introduce two-way charging in its models.

“We see great potential,” Poppe said in an interview. “The grid needs those electric vehicles. We need to make it available and it can be a huge resource.”

The pricing thing which I always saw as a major benefit, well I could never see governments not wanting to get their cut, just a question of time.

I think i have seen situations where Buses make money with bi directional charging? I guess they are not being used much at night and can be charged in the day, well that is the only way it would work but would they not be charged at night?

So just like the insurance companies with their "Big Brother" monitoring.  Whatever, there is no need for this.  There are a couple less intrusive options for states to get road taxes.  The first would be to use an average miles driven annually divide that by an appropriate average mpg (based on vehicle class), and simply multiply that by the fuel tax.  Sure some may be over charged or under charged based on their personal miles driven that year, but it is better than a government agency "monitoring" you.  Another option would be to have EV owners report their miles driven annually.

Now the real issue will be what happens to the federal fuel tax, and what about when you travel from state-to-state.

Regardless, if states are doing the entire monitoring thing for EVs, it is a great reason not to buy one.

Claims severity for EVs outpace ICE-powered cars – report

Published by Mitchell, a technology and information provider serving the P&C claims and collision repair sectors, the report found that repairable claims frequency for EVs rose 1.49% in the US and 2.64% in Canada during the second quarter of the year.

The average severity for all EVs was higher by $963 in the US and $1,328 in Canada compared to cars powered by ICE. This differential became more pronounced when specifically analyzing Tesla models, reaching $1,589 and $1,600 respectively.

A major factor in rating a car was performance, now even a basic Tesla has outstanding acceleration etc so you would think that is a factor.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
