A long read, but well worth it as it is well researched and informative relative to the EV myth.  As I have said many times, EVs are practical for some, but are not a complete replacement for ICE from a functionality standpoint.  My issue is with the artificial market forces lead by the governments around the world and the likes of the WEF driving EV adoption.  I heard one commenter mention a similarity to Palm Pilots with respect to the current EV market.  When one company owns nearly 75% of the market (Tesla), it is really more of a cult product and potentially it will fall off the cliff in the early adopter phase like the Palm Pilot did.  Now of course in the case of Palm Pilots, the governments were not directly or indirectly forcing their adoption, so EVs may face a different outcome, but with increasing distrust of governments, who really knows.

The scale of those upstream emissions emerges from the fact that a typical EV battery weighs about 1,000 pounds and replaces a fuel tank holding about 80 pounds of gasoline.[31] That half-ton battery is made from a wide range of minerals, including copper, nickel, aluminum, graphite, cobalt, manganese, and, of course, lithium. Critically, the combined quantity of these specialty and so-called energy minerals is 10-fold greater in building an EV, compared with an ICE car.[32]

 

As researchers at the U.S. Argonne National Labs have pointed out, the relevant emissions data on such materials “remain meager to nonexistent, forcing researchers to resort to engineering calculations or approximations.”[33] And, per IEA, data on the emissions intensity of specific minerals can “vary considerably across companies and regions.”[34] That is a consequential understatement. The fundamental fact to keep in mind: every claim for EVs reducing emissions is a rough estimate or an outright guess based on averages, approximations, or aspirations. The estimates entail myriad known unknowns about what happens upstream to obtain and process materials to fabricate the giant battery. Those factors not only vary wildly but can be big enough, alone, to wipe out from one-half to all the emissions saved by not burning gasoline.

All valid points, I have never understood the net zero argument, everything I have seen is 50% at best, unless and until they can make EVs out of Fairy Dust.

 

If you really want to focus on emissions etc then you make vehicles smaller and lighter and I see the opposite happening.

The graph listed as Figure 6 is quite telling.  No one really understands the emissions from getting all the materials to make EVs yet.  I have seen some studies that show diesels running on renewable diesels also known as hydrotreated vegetable oil (not biodiesel) is far superior to EVs in CO2 emissions even with optimistic EV manufacturing studies.

Even very basic stuff, I am in Colorado we have a short growing season, very short where I am, most food comes from outside Colorado.

 

Emissions related to a Melon would be very different based on all sorts of factors.
