Meanwhile, in Germany, more than 100,000 workers at nine Volkswagen factories across Germany, including its EV-only factory, went on strike this strike this week for a few hours on Monday, bringing assembly lines to a grinding halt in the battle over the slashed pay, lost jobs, and the automaker’s future.

The strike comes after weeks of collective bargaining negotiations in which the Volkswagen didn’t back down from its plan to potentially slash thousands of jobs and close factories in Germany – a first in the automaker’s 87-year history in the country. Volkswagen plans to close at least three factories, lay off thousands of workers, and trim pay for those remaining by 10%, all as it fights to stay alive amid stiff competition from China.

EV tariffs are coming across the Western world, because China are pushing hard to corner the market to rescue its economy. The best hope of the West is in solid state batteries, and that China does not make that leap first and is trapped relying on lithium ion batteries.

Well Li technology, in the past they have bought anything new.

There are batteries with 10,000 cycles so much longer than any car would last,

Hmm, I guess it is cheaper to shut off the turbines than to update the grid.

Brits Pay Billions To Waste Wind Energy

  • The UK paid £1.3 billion this year to compensate wind turbine operators for curtailment due to insufficient grid capacity.
  • Addressing the curtailment problem would require a costly grid expansion, estimated at £40 billion annually.
  • In the meantime, energy costs for British consumers are rising due to curtailment payments and reliance on expensive electricity imports during low-wind periods.

Seems to go here as much of the "green" energy items use a lot of these materials.

China Announces a Ban on Rare Minerals to the U.S.

The ban signals Beijing’s willingness to engage in supply chain warfare by blocking the export of important components used to make valuable products, like weaponry and semiconductors.

Sales of gallium, germanium, antimony and so-called superhard materials to the United States would be halted immediately on the grounds that they have dual military and civilian uses, China’s Ministry of Commerce said. The export of graphite would also be subject to stricter review.

Been reading a bit about this new tactic by the worshippers of the church of climate change.  It will be interesting to see how all this bureaucracy is ignored.  I do love the headline writers from the Guardian and their progressive bias.  Obviously it wasn't just the US arguing against this.

Fury as US argues against climate obligations at top UN court

Australia, China and Saudi Arabia – major fossil fuel economies and among the world’s worst greenhouse gas emitters – also argued against legal accountability that developing nations are pushing for.

After years of campaigning by vulnerable nations and the global climate justice movement, the UN asked the ICJ to provide an advisory opinion on what obligations states have to tackle climate change and what the legal consequences could be if they fail to do so. More than 100 countries and organisations are testifying over the course of two weeks, and many hope the hearings will elevate science to the forefront, ensuring international law reflects the realities of climate breakdown and the urgent need for transformative action.

Going to put this here as I cannot imagine Californians are willing to put up with people stealing liquid fossil fuels to run ICE engines.

California’s Next Crime Wave — Fuel Theft

  • On Sept. 27, an Inland Empire resident drove away from her job at an area hospital when her pickup truck puttered to a stop. An investigation showed her tank had been drilled and emptied.
  • A Valero Station in Fremont lost tens of thousands of gallons of diesel to thieves using a device to bypass pump security and transfer fuel into a specially configured pickup truck on July 10.
  • On July 2, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office charged two men with an alleged fuel theft scheme involving $90,000.00 in diesel fuel thefts.
  • On March 1, East Bay law enforcement reported a “rash of destructive gas thefts by drilling gas tanks.”
  • Most recently, on Nov. 21, thieves in Otay Mesa near San Diego pumped 3,000 gallons of stolen fuel from a Circle K station. This was a loss of $16,000 for the station.

ahem - the above is Dec. 19, 2023, 9:39 a.m. ET

all we need now is for AOC to present a state approved facemask to (1) virtue signal your concern for covid and (2) this facemask has  a microchip that counts your breaths and sends you a tax bill.

By 2035, All California Vehicles To Be Replaced By Little Tikes Cozy Coupes

SACRAMENTO, CA — California Governor Gavin Newsom has adopted a plan set forth by the California Air Resources Board to phase out all gas-powered and EV automobiles and replace them with Little Tikes Cozy Coupes no later than 2035.

"California now has a groundbreaking, world-leading plan to achieve 100 percent zero-energy vehicle sales," Newsom said in a statement.  "By the year 2035, every new car sold in California will be a Little Tikes Cozy Coup."

Government vehicles are exempt from the order.
