Despite mounting proof that offshore wind hurts whales, the media, feds and activists deny harm

 

“Absolutely, 100%, offshore wind kills whales,” the scientist told the Daily Mail. 

 

The survey vessels use loud blasts of sonar sound to map the seabed floor in preparation for the installation of high-voltage cables and monopiles, which are hundreds of feet tall with an over 30-foot diameter. The monopiles are pounded into the seabed with specialized ships. 

 

NOAA data, according to the Daily Mail, shows that humpback whale deaths in New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island waters went from an average of two per year before 2016, when wind developers’ sonar vessels began mapping the seabed. Then deaths went to an average of 10 in the years since the activity began. Last year, 20 whales were found dead in the region. 

 

Gerasoulis used his software system — named after a 41-foot humpback whale, Luna, who was found in Long Island, New York in 2023 — to map the traffic patterns of sonar vessels and the location of dead humpback whales. The statistical tests on the Luna system, according to the Daily Mail, show that there’s a statistically significant connection between the two.

TEXAS IN THE SUMMERTIME

You know you're in TEXAS during the summertime when:

 1. The best parking places are determined by the available shade, instead of the distance from the desired location.
 2. Hot water now comes out of both taps, and you can make sun tea instantly.
 3. You learn that a seatbelt buckle makes a pretty good branding iron.

 

 4. The temperature drops below 95 and you feel a little chilly.
 5. You discover that in the months of July & August, it takes only two fingers to steer your car.
 6. You discover that you can get sunburned through your car window.

 

 7. You also discover that you can burn your hand while opening the car door.
 8. You break into a sweat the very instant that you step outside at 7:30 a.m.
 9. Your biggest bicycle-wreck fear is, "What if I get knocked out, and end up lying unconscious on the pavement and cook to death?"

 

10. You realize that asphalt has a liquid state.
11. The birds have to use potholders to pull worms out of the ground.
12. The potatoes cook underground, so all you have to do is dig one out of the ground, rinse it off, and add butter, salt, and pepper for an instant baked potato.

 

13. The farmers are feeding their chickens crushed ice to keep them from laying hard-boiled eggs.
14. The cows are giving evaporated milk.
15. The trees are whistling for the dogs.

Not knocking Singapore, I think it’s an amazing place to visit (I have my reasons).

 

Next time I go, I will be better prepared. Last time I went, I was told at 9:30 am on a Friday that I was needed there Monday am. I was on a plane, in business class, 6:00am the following morning. Preparation? What preparation? 🤣

So About Those Oceans That Were Just About to Boil Away...

 

It seems like only last year [it was only last year, Steve —Editor] that we were all going to die because the oceans were literally figuratively boiling away.  I'm not sure whether it was the massive amounts of steam that were supposed to kill us or the resulting Sharknado.  I just know that whatever the oceans are doing, it's a VERY BAD THING, even though the Great Barrier Reef seems to love it.  Seriously, the GBR is in better shape than it's been in for years.

The University of California at Davis and Innovative Genomics Institute are working to engineer the ruminants' stomachs so they don't produce the potent planet-warming gas methane, as The Washington Post detailed.

Because two cows emit as much methane as an average car, the animals are responsible for 4% of global pollution every year.  Methane is 80 times more powerful than carbon dioxide in the heating of Earth and accounts for 30% of rising global temperatures, the Post reported.  [...]

Shrinking island, vanishing polar bears — the climate scare stories that turn out to be false

 

Looking back on more than 20 years of climate agitation, two themes emerge:  a stubborn unwillingness by campaigners to acknowledge any inconvenient science, and ever-shifting favorite stories, first elevated and then dropped by the wayside.

 

The one constant: a fixation on scaring the public, which has in turn shaped bad climate policies.

At the start of this century, the polar bear was the emblem of climate apocalypse.

Protesters dressed as polar bears, while Al Gore's  hit 2006 film "An Inconvenient Truth" showed us a sad, animated polar bear floating away to its death.

 

The Washington Post warned that polar bears faced extinction, and the World Wildlife Fund's chief scientist even claimed some polar bear populations would be unable to reproduce by 2012.

 

And then in the 2010s, campaigners just stopped talking about polar bears.  [...]
