Saw some tips on driving an EV to maximize range and of course one of the main suggestions was to avoid jack rabbit launches.  Seems like mixed messaging, on the one hand EVs are touted for instant torque/acceleration, and on the other hand you should avoid doing that as it is detrimental to driving range.

When I'm first in line at a red light, and without necessarily jackrabbiting, I watch so intently for green lights that my front tyres* are across the intersection before the rear tyres* of the car behind me are across the crosswalk where we'd been waiting.

Kind of falls here.  I wonder if the elected leaders and bureaucrats that created the mandates will be held accountable.  If this was Korea or Japan, I think they might do the honorable thing.

The utility company concluded in 2019 that it needed to invest more in preventing its power lines from emitting sparks, among other issues. Consulting California's efforts to reduce wildfires, the company drafted a plan to install more insulated conductors, fire retardant poles and more aggressive monitoring technology.

 

The company barely pursued those goals over the next two years, however, investing less than $250,000 on wildfire projects, according to the Journal. It did not request state permission to raise rates to pay for wildfire prevention until 2022.

 

Instead, the company found itself focused on a state-mandated shift toward renewable energy.

Might belong in the Blue Cities thread, but I will post it here.  Interesting goals, not sure I would plan on living in one of these cities in the next six years.  You will own nothing and like it.

Guardian likes to rile up the crazies, currently of course it is the fire in Maui, despite it being an electrical fire, lack of maintenance etc.

 

Top comment was someone in the Alps saying it was 95f at 1,000m! And that was as high as Ben Nevis. Ben Nevis is actually 1,345m.

 

Now nowhere in Colorado is that low, Denver is half as high again and 95f is nothing special.

 

Very worrying, the sheer stupidity. Just looked it up 96f in Denver today. No panic, will not set any records or even close to records.
